Petey - Senegal
We're tossing around the idea of getting a second bird so that our Senegal, Petey, is not alone while we're at work. Does anyone have any ideas if this is a good idea for a Senegal; and if so, what species might be a good chatter buddy for him?

We were looking at a green cheeked conure at the pet store and wondering if this would be a possible 2nd bird for us. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I'm getting a Grey for my sennie - he was brought up with them and seems to like them more than any other species we've come across. But I'd suggest something similar to him, a sennie, a meyers, a conure. Just try and find another bird that would 'compliment' his personality. :)

Your best bet would probably be to ask to meet with friends or store owner/breeder's birds to see how your sennie will react to them. Many sennies are very unsocial when it comes to other species, so you have to expose Petey to them before you decide.

I have a young Senegal and recently on a stormy day we found a quaker, we were sure she was someone's since the wings were trimmed but no foot ring :( anyways, as soon as they were in close proximity Zazu would try to attack her even though they were on separate cages, this happened for a whole 3 weeks... take home message: do a lot of socializing before bringing a new bird home, what i thought was going to be a playmate turned out to be a stress factor.

My Green cheeked Conure's are not very social and have attempted to attack both my Princess Parrot's and Ringnecked Parrot's through the wire that separates them.

I would not recomend Green Cheeked Conures for compatability with any other similar sized parrot.
