rescued IRN Max and Cockatiel Honey
Max is always mad at something or someone but even more so since he started molting a few days ago lol. He’s been a bit itchy since then and I’ve been giving him bath every alternate day.

Currently, topping his list of wrath is me! I changed his cage setup a few days ago and he’s been even more grumpy and confused since. He is a shredding machine and if he doesn’t have perches to chew on (he shreads up the bark of perches until they’ll all spot clean), he starts going for the coating on his cage. And he is good at it! :52: I also leave a lot of shredding toys in (the only thing he is interested in) but I had not changed them in a while so I think he got bored?

Anyway, I threw the old ones, put some new natural wood perches for him to chew on and changed his setup.

Max was not happy. Max is terrified of anything new and I think the setup scared him a bit. We are on our fourth or fifth day of changed setup and he refuses to climb on the perches. These perches are the same ones as before, just new ones. He’s now sleeping by hanging on side of the cage bar every night :(.

I think with time, he should be okay (right?) but is there anything I can do to solve this? I know birds sleep however they want to but I can’t imagine that to be comfortable for him.

Any advice appreciated.

Sorry...not really anything helpfull comes to mind.

I usually only change one thing at the time and even that sends Sunny over the edge sometimes (the greys have gotten used to change by now).

I finally got her tearing into a toy that took her over 3 months to get comfortable around (it's been near the cage for over 2,5 months now/ no wonder my house looks like a disorganized mess with everything birdrelated ;) all over the place)

If Max loves stripping bark (and I applaud this, it is really good for him), he just has to get used to perches appearing and disappearing...

I think you’re right. I can tell he hasn’t been getting his beauty sleep because he’s been more sleepy in the day since I changed his setup. The best to do is to wait and see, I guess....
