Yellow Shoulder Amazon, Salty
My vet just returned from vacation in St.Kitts where she met a really amazing member of the Amazon family. THe St. Vincents Amazon, native to of course, St Vincents Island is a Cites I and II parrot, noted as highly vunerable. Size wise it is even bigger than the Mealy Amazon, but what makes it so amazing is it's coloration, truly unique in the family Amazona. It is very sad that this gorgeous parrot is fast on it's way to becoming a captive only species, as the local governments have no interest in preserving the species. Feast your eyes then on the St. Vincents Amazon

What an amazing feast of colors! New to me, a shame they are not actively protected by the local government.

I was aware that they are big. But did not know that they are in fact larger than a Mealy. The one Mealy I know makes our DYH Amazon look like a little boy. The problem with Island Nations is the lack of money and interests beyond just making ends meet.

Thanks for the photo and the information and a thanks to your Vet when you see him!

The "Man Upstairs" has certainly created some amazing creatures! That is a beautiful example! Thanks Al for the post..and like 'Boats said, thank The Saltmiesters doc next time around :D

It looks like a cross between a bronze wing and maybe a blue fronted amazon

I guess I’m the only one who thinks this looks like a slightly more colorful pigeon

It looks like it flew through a paint factory.
so many colors all over, it could not decide what it liked best. Green is almost an afterthought.

My new desktop photo at work.:35:
