He looks so pleased with himself. He knows he's the king of his area, lol.

Great pictures!

I love how you let him free fly, he must be the happiest pet cockatoo ever! But don't you ever worry about him getting into things that could harm him like poisonous plants, pesticides or even hawks? I would be worried sick the entire time. :52:

omg, you're so right! After you said that I got to thinking, he probably marches around all big and bad thinking he is just SOOO tough the no other cockatoos dare enter his territory! Let's not tell him there are no other cockatoos around ;)

Haha. If it wasn't for razor sharp talons, I'd be sure he could beat up any Hawk as well.

I could never do that here, besides Hawks we have a HUGE population of bald eagles.

those pictures especially the last one almost make me want to pack up and move to Austrailure. Alison and sweetie pie:D

Finally, the pics I have been waiting sooooo long for! :D He looks so happy and confident. That is my ultimate goal with Rome one day. LOVE the pics.

By the way, I did try putting a towel down on the ground while I garden, she is starting to get a little more comfortable with the idea. ;)

IcyWolf, Amigo has been free flying two years in June and we live nowhere close to any pesticide spraying, he has chewed on every plant in the area, that I know of, except, I'm hoping not poison oak and if so he hasn't had any ill effects, yet, if he get's in it and touches me, though...I will be hurting!

Hawks have checked him out but he is such a bizarre sight and sound that they don't stick around long. He comes in to the house when he wants during the day then comes in for the night. I quit worrying about him a while ago when I figured out he knew where his territory is, he knows where I am most of the time, and he knows where home is.

Such a beautiful bird ! He does look pleased with himself , lol.
Has he followed your car again lately ?
You the king Amigo , you the king :). lololol.
Thanks for the pictures Mare Miller :)

That is just so cool! I would love to just be able to let my window open and have our birds come and go as they please but we have two red tails that like to circle our property and most of our birds are bite sized :52:

Hi Molcan2, I'm happy to hear Rome is enjoying the great outdoors! Being a cockatoo, I have faith that she will become more brave!

I'm still learning how to post pics, my daughter had more patient with me than my youngest son, eventually we got some on!

IcyWolf, we don't leave our windows open for him to come and go, he knocks at the window when he wants in. If no one is home, he has an outdoor cage with food and water in it, if necessary. Someone is almost always home.

I think it just the most awesome thing that you free flight him like you do. Pixel will have to be content flying around the house once she gets new feathers (hopefully not too much of a learning curve...). She's snack sized and I lack the property... Amigo is a lucky 'too, for sure. I can just see him trying to take on a hawk if he ever got the chance.

How did you start training him to free fly?

I would not free fly any bird smaller than Amigo and decided to go this way with him only because he was so discontent in the home even with all the amenities that a caged/on top of cage life can offer.

Free flight was a long process, totally changed mine and my husbands life with Amigo, for the better.

Its amazing and I would love to free flight mine too but living in the city that is not possible. I would love to see videos if you could post some. :)
