Did some photos inspired by this month's POTM of my naturally flexible and fearless yoga bird! He was really excited too since he is not often allowed in the office/gym room. I've been working on the hanging upside down trick for him for quite some time and he's totally comfortable with it now. Just place my hand on his back, gently flip him and when I tell him to "be a bat", he flips all the way down I sure love playing with this bird! So much fun to have that kind of trust!

Another BFA on the forum gets called a "big eagle". My mommy calls me a "BIG BAT" (and she isn't wrong) Look at my impressive form!

He's also a pretty good balancer. He'll sit on top of a medicine ball (I do smoosh it down just a bit, but impressive still!)

My mommy can't balance on her human-sized yoga ball...

And she certainly can't balance on hers with one foot!

Takes a lot of skill to step up this good too! Kiwi is a super stepper upper

On edit: I see what you mean about the size of his feet. Those are good feet for hanging from Homo sapiens fingers. Also, I absolutely love the yellow shoulders! I'm hoping the yellow on Kizzy's shoulders expands as she ages. I do think she's at least part xanthopteryx, but to know for sure, I'd have to get a better look at her parents. Yours obviously is! What a handsome devil. I wonder if he prefers petite lady parrots?

Big bat indeed! As a involved parront, I have to say, I have been concerned about the new group of friends he's been hanging around lately and the influence they may be having. I just feel like he's somehow gotten in with the wrong crowd

LOL. He actually rather enjoys the batman song whilst being a bat bird. We first noticed his inclinations towards pretending to be a bat not long after we adopted him (though it took a very very long time before he'd hang upside down off us!). He always seems to be hanging upside down off something, even more fun if he's dangling precariously by one or two toes while flaring his wings and acting like a general nut, like he does on his boing Gives me a heart attack, but I've never seen him fall. Probably the ginormous feet. He's daring for a flightless bird!

And yes, he has massive feet. Like, disproportionately large for his size. Kiwi doesn't have the weight of a flighted bird and BFAs are a bit more streamlined, but you can see it when he's next to me how big he is! Very similar in appearance size wise to a DYH, but still weighing significantly less. Kiwi is almost certainly 100% xanthopteryx- large size, large feet, large attitude, very little blue and a lot of yellow on the head and wings. I can't quite tell by photos and presume she has a little more growing to do, but Kizzy appears small and has a lot of blue on her head and less yellow. Those are dominant traits of aestiva's. They are more in line with the size of the smaller amazon species and more similar in temperament to the smaller zons than hot 3 zons. They're kind of uncommon in the US though. It would be interesting to see her parents.

Super cute thread, April! The photos of you and Kiwi are wonderful, especially if you know how far Kiwi's come in your care. Love the photo of Kiwi with his new group of friends, hopefully this is only a phase he's going through.
