Amazon Parrot and IRN?

Hey guys. I previously made a topic about how I was looking for a conure to take in etc but change of plans?

There is an Amazon that needs to be rescued, I’m the only one willing to take it in.. do you guys have any advice? I read that Amazons tend to be aggressive towards smaller birds and I honestly don’t want a blood bath. I won’t keep them together of course but I’m wondering if they could eventually turn out as friends and bond or is there no chance that’d happen?

Amy ( a 30y.o. Blue Front) simply ADORES BB the Cockatiel! ( I have a few posts about Amys obsession with the little boy) I have watched VERY carefully on how they interact ( Amy loves all birds though,just ask Al and his Salty ) After watching them together I've come to the conclusion Amy would never harm BB,he just loves the little guy way too much.

And NO they do NOT live together. BB kind of tolerates the big green dino..heck Amy is four times bigger lol. BB allows Amy to preen his hat for a few seconds..BB will wolf whistle to Amy,even throw kisses to Amy. When Beebs has had enough he just flies off to me :04:

I've seen both species bonded with much larger and smaller species than themselves, so I'm sure it's possible they would get on as your IRN does with her quaker friend. It's also possible they would have vicious fights, even after becoming friends, so I would not leave them unsupervised together even if the introduction process goes well. Amazons often have moody and aggressive phases, and IRNs are sturdy, strong and feisty birds who have killed larger species than themselves in captivity. I've seen an IRN hen scare away a territorial CAG on the warpath just with her angry, unintimidated body language. I would not trust an IRN to fly away from a fight with a bigger bird that didn't back down.

There is nothing to support or define, which Parrots will live well with each other or not. As a general statement, larger Parrots and smaller Parrots are a poor mix only because 'if' there is a disagreement, commonly the smaller suffers more.

As an Amazon Snob, I truly enjoy theses statements regarding the Beastful Amazons as it likely keeps individuals that are shopping for a 'Pretty Parrot' from buying an Amazon.

I am a strong believer in allowing an Amazon to choose you! If this Amazon wants to be with you - you're 90% to solving any other possible problems.

Can a IRN and an Amazon live happily. That is a discussion between those two Parrots. Some will and others will not.

….And Steven hit the nail on the head,so to speak. I just happen to be blessed with a very unique Amazon. He doesn't yell/scream Amazon noises,gets along (so far) with every other bird he has met (but still watched very closely) and welcomes most humans. I could not ask anything else from him

I personally agree, every parrot should choose YOU! But this one is a difficult situation. The owner has neglected it, only feeds it and kept it in a cage for years and barely interacted with it. No toys or anything. My heart broke and I just have to get that poor thing out of there, there are no other people willing to take it in or buy it so I want to make a difference. I hope all will go well and I’ll post about the process x

As an FYI: Starting from the deepest hole for a relationship to begin and being successful in developing a solid 'trust' relationship is very possible. It is what many of us do regularly. The only difference is the concept of time. In short, it doesn't exist. The develop of a Trust Bond will take as long as needed. In addition, starting over from step one is a common reality! And, never, ever compare where your relationship is with anyone else, never !!! Your Amazon is your baby forever!!!

Please understand that you must learn their Language: Amazon!
