A friend of mine asked me today if i was interested in or new anyone who was interested in a yellow front or yellow head amazon. Her friend bought the bird and cage for 1800.00 less then a yr ago. Found out the bird don't like her and now is trying to rehome the poor thing. She definatly jumped first. The bird is in upstate ny. I am not trying to get another feathered friend i already have 3 feathered friends and dont' know if we could do another. But i am worried this poor baby will go to someone else who isn't prepared for him. I have never had an amazon so i am not sure what to expect with them. She thinks he prefures men but i do not think she is very parrot knowledged. The bird is in upstate ny and i dont know what she is asking for him/her yet. If anyone could help this poor guy/gal please help me find him/her a good home.

p.s. I informed my friend to tell her friend that there was no way she was going to get her 1800 back on the bird. That she would be lucky to find a good home for her and get 500. I think the kdy was hoping to get her 1800 back but i think she got ripped of being charged that much to begin with, But in all fairness she should have done her research first.

That's so sad :( I hope he finds a good home. we just adopted a blue front and were just asked to take in three others so I am definitely out. I'm glad you told her not to expect to get her money back, that is an insane amount to begin with, I could see if the bird was a baby and she got a really nice cage but if she spent that much on a rehome she was really taken. Hopefully she the money doesn't keep him from finding the home he deserves.

Thats what i am worried about. That she will do the same thing to someone else that happened to her. Sell the bird for money instead of REHOMING the bird.

I too hope that you can find a good home. We don't really have the space(money) for another. Just rehomed one last week to a lady in NC but have another who's vet bills are killing us. Wish we could save them all,but that's not possible. Would be nice to start with a bird as young as that one, the older ones come with so much baggage.

How old were your's when you got them. This one is 10 yrs. Young by parrot standards but im still worried about baggage. The lady that has her now. I dont know what she was thinking but she only had the bird a very short time and she tried to feed it seeds from her mouth. Needles to say the bird pierced her lip. She is afraid of it now.

Most of my rehome/rescues are in their 30's at least late 20's, some much older.I thought the bird you were describing was younger than 10. I don't know of anyone looking in your area but will keep an eye out.

Thank you very much. Ya they think she/he is around 10

How come I can't find any amazons that need to be rehomed? lol. I sure would love to take in a dyh or a nape if the price was right. lol.

Maybe this one will work out for you Merlee. You would be great with a Zon, but 1800 is ridiculous in my opinion. The Zons I took in I paid 300 for the pair with cage, and I was told they were 9-10 years old. They were cage bound but have inproved greatly and now venture out, and I can handle the female now, only took 2 months of love and patience and a good diet. Plus alot of vet bills as the male had serious respiratory infections.

Where are you located ? I'm in Fla near Tampa, Buy a roundtrip ticket (pretty cheap on SW or Airtran) and come visit a few. If you don't like the ones at my house be here on Nov 25 and go to a bird show where there'll be tons. A small travel cage that meets specs to fit under seat and your set.Maybe the same situation is true with this lady. Anyone willing to put that kind of effort into meeting the right bird would make a great home.Get her contact info and talk to her. There are birds out there , go meet a few, i'll pick you up at the airport.

I got the lady talked down to only 500 but she wants to keep the cage. I had my friend explain to her the ins and outs of rehoming a 10 yr old bird that has emotional issues. And how she wanted way to much. I don't know what she will say next but i hope this poor bird finds a good home.

Boysmom, $1,800 is a ridiculous price plus the drive up to NY would make it even more expensive. Next time I am up in Atlanta I would like to stop at a rescue, Miss Vickie's Parrot Village.
