- Orange Winged Amazon, Indian Ringneck, 2 Green cheek conures, 2 parakeets
Hi, I am new to the forum and have a question regarding my orange winged amazon. She is 14 years old and a very sweet bird. She does have flight capabilities though she rarely flys. She has just this week taken an interest in our male Indian Ringneck whose area is in the dining room(because the parakeets are in there and he loves the parakeets), the amazon is in the living room. She will now fly into the dining room to hang out on the cages in the dining room to be near the indian ringneck. He's not sure what to think of the Amazon, approaches cautiously and then backs off. He is able to climb up the ropes to the curtain where the Amazon can't go. She isn't trying to hurt him but just hangs out there constantly preening herself and making little "lovey" sounding noises. (I think she has a crush on the Ringneck, though I'm not sure) She has become very territorial over the area though and doesn't want me near the Ringneck at all. For instance, he has always liked when I come up to the cage and he will hop close to me while I sing to him. Now when I do this the Amazon blocks his view and he has to sit further back while I seen while she looks at me with her pinning eyes saying "I don't think so lady, he's mine" lol. She hasn't bit, but should I be concerned about this behavior or not? At the end of the day she still lets us get her and put her away to her own space to sleep. It's funny the behavior of these birds lol. It's almost a love triangle...the ringneck loves the parakeet which does not have free range, and the amazon loves the ringneck lol. Anyone have anything like this happen before?
Thanks!
