Hello, I'm new here. I have taken my baby conure in for two different vet check ups. One vet put him on zupreem pellets, and the other on missing link supplement. However, he is still on formula... I am giving him scenic high protein formula and scenic weaning pellets. He will take the formula okay, but not really interested in the weaning pellets. He def won't eat the zupreem pellets. I can get him to eat an unsalted cracker, and cheez its.. I know these aren't nutritional, but I don't want him to starve... Are these good brands of pellets etc?

He will not starve himself, guaranteed. Just like with children, when they are hungry enough, they will eat what they are offered. Stop the cheez-it's IMMEDIATELY, if he's an unweaned baby that's one of the worst things you can do for him.

How old is he? Eventually the formula needs to stop. How many feedings of formula a day are you giving him?

Yes, Zupreem is a relatively common pellet. I feed my two Zupreem Naturals, which are the non-colored, brownish pellets. Zupreem and Harrisons are the two quality pellets off the top of my head.

Thank you for the response. I'll stop the cheezits. And I'll just offer the zupreem pellets... He is being fed three times a day, and he only wants about five cc's per feeding. He is six weeks old.

You have to encourage him to eat on his own. Try taking out the noon feeding and giving the normal amount at breakfast and dinner. Then after he eats his lunch on his own give 2cc at the morning feeding and the normal at night. Then after he eats the rest in pellets for the morning, stop the morning feeding and only give the night feeding. He should get the hang of it after that but if he doesn't try giving only 3cc at night.
Zupreem natural is a good brand, I use Hagen tropican because it is human grade ingredients and my birds love it.
Hope this helps, Chris.

I would suggest getting a set of digital scales and keeping a weight chart.Weigh him every AM before feeding. This will help you figure out how well he's eating on his own. If your feeding with a syringe you might consider switching to a spoon.Usually feeding a little thicker/drier formula ,until he gets the hang of feeding him self. Make sure he's learning to drink water on his own. When you start offering pellets ,try giving him damp pellets ,just a few, and don't leave them out but for 1-2 hrs as they will spoil much quicker than dry pellets. Keep a few dry pellets in a dish at all times and watch for him to show interest in them. KEEP TRACK OF HIS WEIGHT. We feed Zupreem Natural.

A 6 weeks old GCC will not go from formula to hard pellets. Period. The moisten pellets are good, however, I breed GCC and at that age they are just getting curious with their beaks and they will start by nibbling on millet first. I offer moisten pellets along with nestling food, sprinkled with millet. All my Conures like to dunk their pellets in their water to eat them once adult.....

PS: YES HE WILL STARVE if you cut down the formula and offer only hard pellets!!!
