So I bought dried garbanzo beans and split peas, soaked overnight then boiled for 15 minutes not they are in my sprouter. Is this the safe way to prepare legumes?

I mean NOW they are in my sprouter.

sometimes i boil beans and lentils to soften them (if i forgot to sprout them a day or two ago and want them quickly)
But if i want them sprouted, i do it the same way i do the seed/sprout mix,

I just rinse in apple cider vinegar to kindof clean it,
soak for ~12 hours in water of any temperature (though i find its faster the warmer it is)
and then just use a sieve to get the water out and let them sit in the jar without water (rinsing 2-3 times a day until they go off, or i use them all)
[because i do not own any type of sprouter or kit, just jars and a sieve lol]

I pretty much just go by the rule that if i wouldnt eat it, i wont feed it to pickle either. :)

also - do you find the split peas actually sprout for you? I have never tried with anything but whole ones because i didn't think that halves would actually sprout..?

I have never cooked beans for sprouting, i don't think that will work.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure boiling them will kill them and then they won't sprout, but they could be served as cooked beans.

For sprouting I soak overnight, then drain and allow to sprout. I use a little GSE (with preservatives) in the soak water, but it's not strictly necessary. You can also use a tiny bit of bleach, which is what is done commercially, but then you have to worry about very thorough rinsing.

Don't try to sprout red kidney beans (and presumably any close relatives) but pretty much everything else that's commonly available is safe to sprout.

Ok so basically its cook or sprout then? No wonder they arent growing sprouts!

Yes you either cook them OR sprout them! Not both :)

I just learned to cook them. I have no idea what it means to "sprout" them lol.
