Am I being paranoid, or is this normal?

You know the white skin around a conure's eye? I'm not sure of the technical name. Anyway, the skin around my conure's left eye is different shaped than the skin around the other eye.

I'm not even sure if he's always been like this and I'm just being paranoid. I did notice it awhile back, but it hasn't gone away. There is no redness, swelling, itching, or discharge. He isn't blinking more than usual, scratching it, and honestly I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary in his habit. Is this just something he was probably born with? Or should I worry?

The Avian vet is about 5 hours away, so I don't want to stress him out with a long trip unless it's really something I should check out. I have to admit I've been kind of a worry wart since my first parrot passed away.

I've included a picture, and circled the area I'm talking about. The picture is SUPER up close, you can barely notice it in real life, I only notice it because I look at him so much.

Sorry the picture is kind of inverted and I can't flip it around on photo bucket

I have no idea if that's normal or not. I guess I'll have to wait too to see if anybody else has any input on it. All I can say is that is a wild looking picture so zoomed in like that.

Can you believe I took it with my cell phone? I had no idea the pictures would turn out so clear. I hope everything is ok though :(

It doesn't look like anything bad. The color and texture of that spot looks about the same as the rest of the grey "bubbly stuff" surrounding the black eye. If you look at all the "bubbly" stuff, it's all a little different around the circle. His eye looks nice and clean and sharp and healthy.

I would email the photo to the a-vet and explain you are 5 hours away and that Chubby seems perfectly fine to you, but you just recently noticed it even though it may have been there before.

Thank you WannaBeAParrot, that helps a lot. I think I will do just that. Sometimes I feel like such a hypochondriac :/ I worry over analyze every little thing when it comes to my pets lol

I agree with wannabe, sending the photo in to the vet. Since theres no drainage, swelling or discoloration it looks like a small imperfection only.

I would recommend a bath or gently wiping the eye with a soft tissue... maybe a moist tissue? And see if it's not just an eye booger.

If it remains, it's probably not an issue unless it grows in size.

It's not an issue at all honestly he is fine, I'd just bath him I case it would be a situation. Many of my birds have different eye patch sizes. My rose breasted, my blue throat macaw, and many others skin around the eye is different.

WOW, I can't believe you took that picture with your phone. AWESOME!!! Looks like a macro shot, no kidding!

AND, I now wonder what those tiny little knobby things all around the eye are called. To me it looks like maybe your birds had an itch, scratched it, and one of those little knobby things is now out of place.

Hmm....I'm sure my reply sounds VERY professional and knowledgable. :30: :54:

Some birds do have what look like eyelashes, but they are really feathers.....
