Hi all! I am new to the forum!
Live in Hawaii/Oahu, moving to Florida, SW soon.
Have a couple Macaws, they are breeding but eggs do not seem to be doing anything after 30 days. These guys are well fed, live in an outside cage (it is Hawaii) and seem to be generally ok. They were a bit distressed when we got them, the female likes to pull her feathers out. The male is a gold, female is a mix scarlet.
Not sure if they should be aloud to breed at all?
I want to separate them but they act crazy when separate.
The gold is beautiful, but they are very nippy (obviously because they are nesting).
I periodically let them out of the cage when they don't have eggs, and they crawl around the yard and forage. I can pick them up with a large stick, I ask them to step up and they do, but I am afraid they will bite the hell out of me if I dare get to close. They show a lot of aggression right now. Is it best to put them in adjacent cages at first to get them used to being separate?
Please advise thank you!
