Hey everyone, I have a question.

I was going to mix up a bird bath spray, consisting of Aloe Vera gel and water. I thought it would be a good idea (SB reccomended it to someone else), but I read the ingredients and found some that are questionable for their safety. The bottle says '100% Aloe vera gel', but the ingredient list says otherwise.

I figure that if these are used on humans each day, then they should be safe. But birds are sensitive creatures, so I'm not completely sure.

My bottle contains the following:

Aloe vera gel, trithanolamine, tocopheryl acetate, carbomer, tetrasodium EDTA, DMDM hydantoin, and diazolidinyl urea.

What are your personal opinions?

Hmm. I don't know what some of those ingredients are. We can't assume if safe for humans safe for birds. Look at perfume.
I use aloe vera liquid solution. I buy the big bottle from Walgreens and mix 2 parts water to 1 part aloe.

I worked for a naturopathic vet for a while who wouldn't use Aloe Vera products due to the chemicals they put in however many of her patients were very ill and often recieving treatment for other serious health issues and had a compromised immune system. Having a look at what's in the gel I think the biggest issue would be possible dermatitis, there's a great book called the Chemical Maze which gives info on additives including the numbers, and possible health issues - it's scarey what we consume and put on our skin.

I have an aloe-vera plant which I use, personally I would use the gel if in diluted form and only on occations

Well, I am diluting it with water. It's would be something like a couple of squirts diluted in 1-2 cups of water. It really won't be very concentrated at all.

Would it be okay if I did that?
