Ive had my male Alex for 2 yrs now and he has always been very cautious around my husband and I. He would occasionally land on me but then fly away very quickly.

About a week ago- out of the blue, he started landing on us, showing affection and spending much more time with us! I am over the moon with his new confidence but was wondering if this was common for Alexes? Such a sudden flip completely threw me off?

If any experienced bird owners could share their experiences that would be great! Interested in knowing more about Alexes and their behaviour :)

What an awesome surprise! How old is he? I wonder if he is feeling hormonal...is he regurgitating or anything?
Our Alex, Xander, came to us wanting attention (and lots of it!).
I hope your boy stays like this, what a great turnaround!

Hi Terry! I love friendly birds! Lucky you with Xander!

Rio is 2 yrs old now. About a yr ago we got a young female Alex who we hand raised, she has always been very close to us and just stays on our shoulders as long as we allow.

I am thinking introducing her to the family has perhaps made Rio relax, after watching her. I havent noticed regurgitating , however the two birds are bonded, they feed each other, share food and do a weird move where they put their beaks under each others necks and click! (Still trying to figure that one out!)

Whatever the cause, I am really delighted!
