Ah, The Dance...

At last it's finally here. Kito's been fluffing up and bobbing madly for my husband for months now, but I think her 'time' is finally here since before it was easy to snap her out of it. She's fluffing up to double her size now and touching her wings to the ground as she bobs around, and not just at him. She steps up so gingerly that it's almost like a caress and it's kinda getting creepy.

Sound familiar? I'm not sure when senegal breeding season is, so I'm thinking she's in it now. We've had her for about ten months now,she's probably due. The weather's getting warmer now, and all the other birds are out nesting.

aww this is what hurts me the most, when i watch nut trying present herself to a potential mate

nuts on longer doing the flirting or any more chewing so i think she is over her season

It must be so frustrating to our birds not to have a mate. Keep remembering this too shall pass.

Sidney just came out of that phase. And I am SO glad that it passed. He wanted to make whoopie with my hand every chance he got. And since his nails were sharp at the time, it really tore my fingers up. Trying to distract him didn't work at all. And he got fairly nippy because I was not able to give him what he wanted. But a week or so ago it was over and he went back to being the lovable, talkative, exasperating into everything bird that he was when I first brought him home. I still get the occasional beak waving, wings drooping, peeping breath dance but with far less urgency now. Usually only lasts about 30 seconds so I think it is more of a bonding thing. I imitate as best as able and he seems to respond positively.

New favorite toy and distraction now that it is over.... An empty Pringles can. In he goes and he plays the "drums" by beating on the tin bottom with his beak. I make sure I tip it up and slide him out every so often to make sure he is getting air. He just loves it in there. Nut!

No joke..love is in the air...every time I walk in the door, our male cockatiel...Chicken Little is mating his perch! ROFLOLOL

When I ask him what is doing? He doesn't miss a beat and says..."Him a good boy????"

Our conure, Franklin...we get him out and he "Humps" the fluffy blankets on our bed!

Our female tiels have been doing TONS of displaying and showing off.

DEFINITELY Love in the air at our house.

It will be nice when it passes, because although they are still very good birds...they are a bit more "edgy" when being handled.
