Well, alot has happened since my last post about my new Amazon'a agressive biting over a month and a half ago. She has really come along way. I read the post many, many times on Amazon body language. (Of course, some of things it mentioned like wing flipping, I actually had to look up on you tube). This was such a tremendous help when you know what to look for. We ended up taking her to the vet to have her wings clipped. While she was there, I had the vet examine her one eye....and apparently she is either blind or has very limited sight in the one eye. After speaking with the previous owner, I was told that their cat got her and damaged her eye. We have been taking things slowly. I am ecstatic to say that this same new member of my family that left a neat scar on my lip, now enjoys me rubbing her head and wings.....YES...I am able to touch her.....most of the time. She is still very hesitant about taking food from my hand, however, she loves to eat off of my plate, and I have to eat as well. Its like a bonding ritual. I usually stand by her cage, when shes out, and we eat together!! She still refuses to get on a stick...yet when she climbs to the floor, she will get on my arm for me to put her back on top of her cage. We try to let her out three times per day minimum, and she usually stays out for at least an hour and a half. She seems to love to try to talk to me. Lately, when I tell her "I love you", I will bob my head up and down, and she will as well. We have noticed that she gets frightened whenever I have something in my hand? So Im wondering if maybe she was possibly abused by a previous owner?? I dont think she has ever had too many toys, other than the one rope toy in her cage. We have been introducing things for her to play with slowly, and one at a time. I am designing a play area for her by her cage, and am currently waiting for her new toys to arrive from Amazon. She is now use to all of our family members. Its funny, but when I watch videos of birds on you tube... she gets so upset that she tries to fly over to the couch where Im sitting. And my wife and kids say that as soon as she hears my truck pull in the driveway, she starts pacing on her perches and sqawking. She has come sooooo far. I am so glad!!!! But, like I said originally.....even if she does not become the loving bird I wanted....she will still be a member of our family! I would like to thank all of you so much for your posts and replies! I would still love to hear any input or advice any of you have. Again....THANKS SO MUCH!!

Keep-up the great work!

Amazon's continue to open-up the more they find you trust worthy and worth their Love. After all, as you will come to understand, you're really owned by them.

Thank-you for taking an Amazon into your home and lives!

At this point, keep working on the basics. ALSO, always approach her from her strong eye side! When you do come from the other direction use lots of verbal clues that you are approaching. The more comfortable she becomes, the more she will open-up and the more you will be able to interact with her. Any Specific Questions, ask away!

So, so glad to hear that you both are adjusting and doing so well! It is truly remarkable what love and care can do for an Amazon.
