I am a new owner of two parakeets who reside in the same cage. One of the birds (Louise) has lost two of her tailfeathers and a lot of smaller feathers. I've noticed the other bird (Thelma) being agressive to Louise. Should I seperate them? Or is this feather loss common. Thanks for your help.

What do you mean by 'being aggressive'? If they actually are fighting then yes they should be separated.

Feather loss can be normal - they do molt. But if she is developing bald spots then that is a problem.

I observed them most of today. It seems like the feather loss is self-induced. She's lost 4 of her long tail feathers and is grooming a lot. No bald spots yet, but I hate to wait until there is one. Any suggestions?

well u can seperate them for a while and notice the behavior change ....may be they start enjoying each other's company after a short seperation.

I just wanted to note that the title of this thread would make a great name for an Emo band! Good job on the unexpected laugh.
