Age of mating .....

Hi. Generally the smaller the parrot the younger they hit puberty and their first huge flush of hormones. We have a small Amazon, a yellow shoulder, and he hit his around 2-1/2 years. He is going thru a hormonal period now, at 5, so this is his second.

Conures I would think maybe from 1-1/2 to 2 years. In nature, chicks hatch at the optimal time for them to survive ( the most abundant food and other natural controlling circumstances). In captivity, chicks are born year round, so depending when your Conure was born he may be out of sync with that. Go by his behavior. Changes in personality - regurgitating, butt rubbing on toys, you, anything, maybe be more bitey, mood swings ( yes even parrots get that). Amazons, the Hot 3, get especially nutty during this first flush of hormones. Each bird is different, some get way crazy and some the parronts never even notice it, but most birds are affected noticeably. Please be patient, your Conure will come out the other side of puberty as an adult.
