Parrots
Goldie- hen Gold/Yellow cheek Cockatiel ( almost 20 yr old) and a newly weaned Lutino parakeet named Boo 2 GCC's Milo-Turquoise and Jada-Pineapple.
My husband has said I can start collecting the things I need to be a IRN slave!! I need opinions on best cage size for an IRN... I know I do not want another Lutino bird. My Budgie is my Lutino. What other colors are there? I have personally seen Blue and a Violet.

What are your go to toys, treats, and play gyms? How old is a good age to get one? Male or female? How did you pick your bird? How are they when they matured?

What I would like is a young male ( I think) that is just out of hand feeding and want the sweetest one I can find.

I am in no rush to get one so I can wait until I find the right bird.

I can't explain it but have looked through all the birds and read as much as I can on the ones I was attracted to and keep being pulled back to the IRN. I love how cute and animated they can be.

Thanks for reading and any advice in advance.

We have two IRNs... a grey (Tiki) and a green (Pippin)... both are lovely! They both have playgyms on top of their cages and Tiki has lots of toys to amuse him. Pippin is getting to enjoy more toys, but is much younger and seems to just be starting to "get" what the toys are for!
Wooden toys and ropes seem to be faves of Tiki. Pippin really likes his bell.

We are pretty sure Tiki is a female...she'll be two in 2 weeks and there is no sign of a ring. We got her 6 months ago from a family I knew who said she was just not bonding to anyone in their home, after about 8 months and was becoming more aggressive and less happy with each passing day. They did not give up easily, but wanted her to be happy so rehomed her with us. She has completely bonded with my husband, and tolerates the rest of us, LOL.

Pippin's sex is, as yet, undetermined. For now, we're calling him a boy. He is 4 months old and was not fully weaned when I got him, so was a lot of work but worth every moment :) I wouldn't recommend getting sch a young bird bird though... I had no idea he was as young as he was, or that he was not completely weaned and it was a big learning curve for me! Luckily I got lots of good advice and we did just fine.

I have to say, quite honestly, that I was still dealing with a very heavy, sad heart after the death of my GCC, and picked Pippin partly because, as much as I love GCC's, I couldn't handle the idea of one who was not him...When I actually MET Pippin, I knew it was going to be ok...

Pippin can be a little pain in the neck sometimes, but what bird isn't? LOL He is, by far, the quietest bird in our house...Tiki gets crazy LOUD, and Gemma (the lovebird) just goes on and on and on and on and....

I think that the more they have been handled, the better, and you just "know" when you meet the right bird for you.:)

The most common IRN color is green, but there are many other color mutations out there, such as blue, white, grey, lace wings, ect. My girl is white. I got her when she was 8 months old which to me seemed like a perfect age to get a new bird. She is such a sweetheart and warmed up to me in no time. Her color is what honestly first attracted me to her. She can be loud if she wants to be but usually only is in the morning while im making her food.
As for toys I would have to say her favorite thing to do in her cage is just sit there and swing. However, when she's out she like to play on the rope bridge and latters, and throw around a foot toy. She also like to occasionally hang onto and chew/forage some of the bigger complex hanging toys. Her cage is about 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 x 3 1/2. That's just a guess. I would have bought something bigger but that was the cage she was in and it came with her. She is also out most of the day. If you have to be gone for long periods during the day, I would get something bigger than that for sure.
It seems they will like any type of play gym you give them, I also have on top of her cage. Mine will have a ball just sitting on my desk while on working on the computer. My main treats are nutri-berries and avi-cakes, but I use fresh foods as a big part of their diet so things like grapes or a cherry can be used as a treat as well.
There are a lot of youtube videos that can maybe help you learn more about them and lots of info on the web as well. They are truly different than others parrots and an amazing species! Also have great talking abilities.
