well just to update. my wife and I wanted to add a second bird. was all excited for a bronzewing pionus but then no breeders in our area.

Then we decided to adopt an african grey but guess what? no rescues in our area. all want to do homevisits but wont drive to us as were several hours away.

So then we decide fine! we will buy a baby timneh african grey from a good breeder. Guess what? nooone in our area works with timnehs anymore they all went to just breeding congos due to the economy. (which I dont get)

Soooo.... a very good breeder that lives 5 miles from our home has 3 baby congos that will be ready in semptember which is about when we were plannin on being able to afford it (dont want to take from the vacation fund.lol)

so YAY! were bout to finally put a deposit down on a baby.

Are you budgeting for vet bills? I would run an ad in Craigslist pets for re-home of the kind you would accept. I bet they come out of the woodwork.

we did that when we were just looking to adopt a grey. we had a bunch of breeders trying to sell us their babys, until we were flagged since posting for animals wanted is against craigslist rules. (I went in and read the rules. it actually is on there)
and yes we have the vet bills figured in along with all the other costs- cage, toys, playgyms, etc.

Right now there are over 300 wanted ads in Community/Pets on Orange County Craigslist. Some are for birds. If you're not banned completely from CL, I would try Adult re-home African Grey (wtd). That should not offend the breeders.

Is 61021 your zip?

61021 is my zip yes, dixon illinois to be exact. in the last 48 hours I have sent e-mails to 3 people with african greys to rehome. everyone of them turned out to be a scam, where they are actually from california or somewhere far away instead of illinois like the post originally said and if I just send them x amount of dollars they will ship the bird and cage to me. so I am still looking and I check craigslist everyday but, im not holding out much hope that I will find a real one up for adoption.

ok well I just went and replied to two craigslist adds for african greys, lets see if either of them turn out to be real. I will also call the number u found for me on ebay classifieds jaimmorr. lets see what happens.

Good luck! I'm sure you'll find your perfect baby. I believe everything happens for a reason... So just hang on. The right one will come around! :)

eh I grew up around con-artists I can usually smell em from a mile away. I find their lame attempts entertaining. I asked one if it even works anymore he sent back "you would be surprised". so that idiot will end up caught some day since he willingly sends out e-mails admnitting hes scammin folks. amateurs. lol

congrats on your new grey! I just adopted one last week!

ok thats 6 adds ive replied to on craigslist for african greys for adoption. every single one was a scam. ive found two more adds on craigslist that use the same photos of a grey on a coffee cup, but with a different sob story everytime. too many con artists out there im just going to the breeder down the road so I know im not getting conned!

uggh! with all the homeless birds out there I just cant force myself to buy a baby. its the same with dogs I just cant go to a breeder when theres all those dogs in shelters. guess it will be awhile till I find the right bird needing a home. (I want one yesterday! lol)

It all depends on what state you live in. Some of the better rescue org. are The Baily Foundation, Pheonix Landing. They all usually will put the bird on petfinder. good luck
