african grey strange behaviour

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help, my African Grey started acting weird this afternoon, it was tilting its head and its eyes seemed to be rolling slightly, it seems to have improved now but not quite back to normal yet, wonder if its had a slight stroke, or perhaps bad food from pet shop, phoned the vets and they said to monitor, can anyone advise,Steven.

Very thin on information. All the way from how old is the Parrot to how long you have had him or her. Diet can be a problem, what is it and how long has s/he been on that diet.

Regarding the 'slight stroke' event was there any other noticed effects like body weakness and/or movements?

A slight stroke is possible. If s/he continues to improve, thats good news!

If you have not had your Grey into see his /her Certified Avian Vet (CAV). It would be a good time to do so.

I had a cockatiel that;
Developed a sudden head tilt. It's head was like stuck at about a 40º angle to the left.
She had poor balance and could not stay on her perch.
When on the floor of the cage constantly went around in circles (CCW circles).
When walking in circles she kept stumbling.

It hurt me deeply but she had to be put to sleep.

I don't know if your bird is/was exhibiting any of these symptoms but even if they have gone away/got better she needs to be seen by a certified avian vet.

Welcome to the forums, Steven. Hard to know from the description, but a visit with an a certified avian vet would help diagnose. Do you notice if the eyes are rolling symmetrically or are the movement independent? Have other symptoms developed?

I would have her at a certified avian vet ASAP! I don't know what type of vet told you to just "monitor" your bird, but birds do their very best to hide all signs of serious illness until they absolutely cannot do it anymore, so since your bird is acting like she possibly had a serious neurological event, I'd find the closest certified avian vet (a general vet or an exotics vet that sees birds is not appropriate for a serious issue like this) and get her there yesterday. It's possible to reverse some results of a stroke or an aneurysm, another possibility, if you get her help immediately, but "monitoring" her could just be waiting for her to become very critical.
