Hi! I am a full time Vet Tech student in Orange County CA and I am also a Pet Trainer at PetSmart. Going through my school program has helped me with exotics and I'm still waiting on getting my first bird! I'm still trying to decide between a Rock Pebbler and an Indian Ringneck, but I am leaning towards the pebbler when the breeder has babies available, whenever that may be. But I have always had my eye on African Greys. Anyway...
I just found a website and they have a bunch of African greys advertised as "free to good home" or "minimal adoption fee". Would getting a bird for free be a bad idea? I'm just thinking of all the other costs associated with keeping the bird happy and healthy. I'm not sure how these people are giving expensive birds away. Other thought was what kind of health issues does this bird have? I've been looking into rescuing an adult bird more and more. Any thoughts/advice?

Please be VERY aware of potential scammers! They are out there, in SCARY large numbers! Please don't ever wire any money.

Check PetFinder, you can find local rescues to contact through there as well, there are tons of birds listed.

Also I also used to be a PS trainer :)

I've checked thru petfinder and most rescues won't adopt out a grey to someone who does not have any "bird experience"

The best thing to do in those situations is visit the rescue if they're available. Interact with the birds and talk to them in person.
