African Grey or Indian Ringneck?

My husband and I are looking into getting a bird late next year, but we can't decide between an African Grey or an Indian Ringneck.

I have read and heard conflicting things about both kinds of birds.

We have no children but would like a bird that's friendly with kids and strangers. Money isn't a factor since we've been saving for a parrot for some time now. We both grew up with cockatiels. We also cared for our friends cockatoo for about a year while she was abroad for work. So we do have some experience with birds, but this will be our first bird of our own and want to make a good educated decision.

Any advice or stories you have to share would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

My .02 would be grey. Neither of those birds are cuddly, but our grey would step up for anyone.

Tabitha it depends on personal taste.I have both IRN & CAG. i love both.If you want a bird which can mimic in the same voice which he hear then Gray is good choice. The vocal power is also more than the IRN. But if you want a parakeet which should not totally depend on you then go for IRN. If money is not a problem then purchase both.Keep at least two parrots.Parrots are highly intelligent birds. So if you are not there will become bored.Thats why its better to keep two.

I don't think either of these species is known as one of the friendlier species, and I think, generally speaking, they are not as fond of being touched as some other species. If friendliness and touching are really important, a conure or caique might be better. I think some of the mini macaws are pretty friendly as well.

I love my IRN. He's not cuddly, but is a sweet bird who likes my presence.
I'd say go visit some. Or like someone Said, if you have enough money then get both.

go look at both kinds and decided from their , Greys are great very smart but ringnecks are to , so go visit each and decide

I don't know a lot about ringnecks however I have a grey and she is so cuddly she is like Velcro to me and just cuddles up to my kneck however I have always socialized her well but she will not accept men I have had her from sixteen weeks and one day she just decided men were a no no however strange women and children she will fly to as soon as they walk in and ask for tickles.
Good luck with ur search
