African Grey and Granite Countertop Install

Hiya folks, new to the forum. I have a 15 year old Timneh and am a bit concerned about the health hazards of having my countertops replaced with granite. I suspect there will be a number of seams and am concerned about the smell of epoxy used to join the slabs. Has anyone gone through this renovation work with a parrot in the house. I'm guessing I'm going to need to board him for a day or more. His cage is about 10 feet from the kitchen. Does the smell last for days and is it strong? Many thanks for those who can provide info on this.

I have endured several renovations/repairs to my home, some precipitated by thin copper water pipes that corrode from hard water/chlorine. Others include floor tile installation, kitchen remodel, and repainting walls.

I live in California with stringent codes regulating hazardous and toxic materials. In no case did I evacuate my parrots from the property. For some events, such as painting and tile installation, the birds were sequestered to the finished garage. I would have concerns with chemicals used in carpeting, but the only shaggy area is limited to the stairs.

Needless to say, none of my birds were adversely affected.

I had my countertops replaced with granite years ago. I didn't have a bird at the time, but I don't remember there being any fumes or smell like you would get with new paint or carpeting. I don't want to say it's perfectly safe for the bird, but I think just moving him to another room for a day or so would be fine. I don't remember there being any smell at all actually.
