afraid of non stable..

Well now I face an other deal..

Phoebus or better Phoebe won't step on my hand or a perch that I hold or that it attached on the top of her cage not because she is afraid of my hand itself but because she is afraid of standing on unstable surfaces.She doesn't have a swing but I think she wouldn't use it..and I think I would need ages to make her accept it in her cage without fear.

I pushed her a little last night and today she is nagging a bit when I try to touch her and stepping away from me!Did I let her down? She seemed to trust me a lot..

Will that come back?Am I moving steps too fast?

No just made a mistake, you know now not to push quite so far.

Yes, once she's had time to settle down a little.

We all learn from our mistakes, no matter how long we have had our fids, as long as we remember those mistakes and don't make them again thats the main thing.

I was pushing Kito a lot the other day and boy did he give me a bite, now he's a little devil, just his way of telling me he didn't appreciate being pushed that hard. He'll calm down soon and we can start over again only not quite so hard.

Here's a little something for Phoebus :40: ... Don't you worry or beat yourself up, we all make mistakes (I've made a plenty this week!). I tend to "push" a little too far at times--we do it without intention, of course. Phoebe just needs a little time to find her (his?) balance again, trust will come sooner than you think. Her trust didn't go away, I don't think, she maybe just became a little "unsure".

As for stability while perching ... I went through a short stretch with Mojo and a shakey hand. My hand felt so unstable to him, he would take immediate flight. Someone told me to gently (not real hard like a vice grip as it can injure them--but just with gentle pressure) place my thumb over his feet after he's stepped-up onto my hand. It offered him enough feeling of stability that he didn't feel the need to take flight. It passed in time.

Give Phoebe a scritch, scritch from my flock!!

Sure I will Deanna!she loves scritches!
Until now she was moving steps towards me because she was desperate for attention and contact!maybe what she did herself was even too far for her as we are little time together (2 months ) and gone through a lot with regular vet visits and injections ...
Thank God she is healthy now, and all this just bonded us !
I must admit I tried that with my finger on her feet but it was not enough to keep her steady as well..
It was a mistake I pushed her and now I will give her time to decide when she is ready to step up on my hand or anything..
And Phoebe said to Timothy : ''Go on tough guy, you are doing great!''

Isn't it strange how some birds love you putting gentle pressure on their feet and some hate it. My little Bourke, Charlie loves it, he doesn't fly too well, never learnt to fly and is very jittery. The other Bouke and all the rest for that matter hate it.
