Hello,

Mando was clipped but his wing feathers are back.
How can I keep him on his play stand ?
He comes off hole day
Every where I am he follows, I dont mind that he comes of ones and a while but he comes of the hole time, that was also the reason why I clipped him the first time.
Now i, m trying to learn him to stay on his play stand, so far I dont have Anny luck.
Are you,re birds clipped ?
And how do you teach you,re bird to stay and play by there selfs ?

Thanks

How old is Mando? Does he have toys and such on his playstand?

In my case both my big macs are now fully flighted, but I'm pretty lucky that they (mostly) stay put. BUT, they have each other to play with, so I'm sure that's a deciding factor.

I have a funny idea: Print a picture of yourself and hang it on the playstand. :)

:42:Hi Wendy,

Thanks, Mando has a big Java tree with lost of toys.
He is from april 2012 so still young.
In the netherlands the houses are really small compare to the US.
So Every time a sit down he comes and join me.:54:
Just want stay on his Java tree.

Oh that's right!!! I remember seeing the picture of your AWESOME Java tree. :) Believe me, I don't live on the Ponderosa Ranch, my house isn't all that big, plus I have ceiling fans in each room, so when my macs fly, I have to duck and get out of their way or I'll end up with a big Mac in my face. :D

If you feel that Mando will hurt himself flying, maybe you can just give him a minimal trim?

I actually had problems with my Georgie when she was younger, same kind of thing--she refused to stay put. Not that i minded having her with me, but she did crazy stuff, tried to fly at the stove while i was cooking (if i had her on the T stand to watch me/'help' me, like i do with Gilbert now), she would fly to my dresser in the morning while i got ready for work and throw perfume bottles to the floor, etc. I ended up giving the minimal clip which didn't allow flight as easily and somehow, as she matured, she simply 'got it'. All the times i said no to certain things, finally sunk in. :) Then i didn't really clip her after that.
I honestly think some of it is the individual personality of the bird. Gilbert loves play time by himself on the cage top or will stand happily watching me on his stand while i cook or chop veggies, where Georgie always wanted to stir a little drama, LOL. I called her my rebel from the time she was young. Full of attitude, liked life on the edge, haha.

Sounds exactly like my Mando:D
He thinks the hole house is his play stand.
Just feel so sorry for him because i,m forced to put him in his cage most of the time, and I just want him to play on his Java tree feeling free.

Yup, that was what i felt for my Georgie too!!! I would get so upset about it but there were times i HAD to cage her for safety (no, you can't fly on a hot frying pan, Georgie) and she would stand there and squawk like crazy, so angry. So it was easier in the short term to clip lightly where she was slightly less mobile but didn't have to be caged.
