hello everybody. i just recently got 2 congo african greys. one male. one female. aprox 11yrs old 5 days ago. i have had some issues with one being aggressive towards me. when i go into the cage at all the male like you would expect would just kinda move away when i go to change food, water, etc. the female who i was told was the sweetheart of the to of them doesnt show many signs of being aggressive like growling or puffing her feathers but will casually climb to wherever my hands are at just to try and bite me. the male i also just noticed this morning has been started feather plucking under on of his wings. im planning on making an appt with thee vet tomorrow to get all the check up and everything done but as a first time bird owner it is a little nerve wracking. any advise helps.

Hello, and congrats on your two greys, not to be mean but.. Why would you get a grey as a first bird? African greys take a lot of experience, and a lot of detection. I would recombined teaching them clicker training. There is a lot of clicker training videos on youtube, or you can buy a professional CD from Amazon or something. Clicker training helps with many behavior problems, and helps bond with you and your bird. Plus, tricks are pretty cool. ;) I also recommend watching Parrot Whisper, Parrot Wizard, BirdTricks on youtube. Hope this helps! :D :yellow1:

Are they a pair? Now being sold as pets?
Very hard to have a mated breeding pair become pets....

yes they are a breeding pair. the people who had them before i did seemed to have a pretty good bond already with them. and i understand having a grey as a first bird would be a hard start but where i live it is extremely difficult finding any sort of pet birds.

Camclark, I was given a double yellowheaded amazon almost a year ago. He was with the same family all of his life. Amazons are also known to be a difficult bird. He started bonding with me within a week. Took longer for him to warm up to hubby. I can do anything with him. He's my little love bug. I'm just trying to say, don't let the fact that they are greys make it more difficult. Each bird is different. Spend time with them, talk and read to them. It takes time. My Amazon was my first bird and it worked out great. If I had gone by what I read and what some people told me about Amazons being a first bird I wouldn't have taken him, but it was the most wonderful gift I've ever gotten. Best of luck.
