Hi, tomorrow afternoon I have agreed to adopt a blue crown conure. He is 6 and was hand fed but has had a mate all his life. He was owned by a breeder who
sold his mate when they didn't produce. With the loss of his mate he plucks the tops of his wings. Owner tried to sell him without his cage.
I feel so bad for this bird!
What I want to know is, does anyone know wheter or not I would be able to return this poor bird back into a happy pet?
Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum, I have to say you'd probably be taking on a real project in adopting a 6 year old breeder, getting him back to a healthy condition might be the easier part, getting him back to being a pet may be much more challenging, all birds are individuals and should be treated as such, so its hard to say how you and he will interact, it mostly depends on how much of yourself you are willing to invest and whether you have the time and patience, you should probably approach it with an attitude of expect the worse and hope for the best and that you'd be happy with somewhere in the middle, hopefully in accepting the responsibilty of adopting, your also willing to accept the responsibilty of a lifetime guardianship no matter what the outcome of your expectations of the bird, just things to think about before making that final commitment, good luck in your decision, please let us know how you make out :)
