I've owned a sugar glider once, well actually it was my gf at the time's pet. That animal was useless. It bit, it's dietary needs were way beyond the pale. It would just jump for no good reason. We gave it away to another family and good riddance...

I get why they were/are popular, soft cute etc. but after owning one, they are complete assholes...If someone gave me one I'd pay for them to take it back.

I have two sugar gliders; I used to have four. They’re colony animals that sleep in nests together for warmth, grooming, companionship, etc, and they bond with their colony (even humans) while sleeping via scent. Keeping a single sugar glider can cause behavioral issues, or turn them into an “a-hole”, the gliders also live in a cage that’s bigger than Percy’s (5 ft tall, 3 ft wide) because they’re nocturnal and I won’t always be able to have them out to exercise.

Parrots bite too, and sugar gliders also never bite for no reason.They have different dietary needs, but so do parrots. Percy gets the same exact fruit, veggie, grain mix as the gliders; Percy gets pellets and the gliders get supplements from wombaroo. They jump for all good reasons. Honestly, they’re the same amount of work as a parrot and they literally can play with the same toys because gliders are smart. However, I wouldn’t for a second let them near my Quaker Parrot because they could eat him. I doubt they’d know how, but they could.

I think as with any captive animal, if you decide to keep it, it needs to have the proper environment, diet, and enrichment. They aren’t all a-holes
