So tomorrow will be Kiwi's 10th:eek: adoption day and Christmas is of course right around the corner as well, and while I'm certain he has no concept of either, I do like to get him some special things this time of year. Finally got around to going to the Bird Hut today to pick up some goodies. I've been needing toreplace his rope perches for a while. Seriously, the big one that goes across his cage I got BEFORE I got him and it's just gotten to the point it's pretty much impossible to clean all the gunk off anymore (Kiwi hasn't chewed it though, still fine in the regard, amazingly) and the plastic end broke off the smaller one during our remodeling process. Since no one appears to carry thick, sturdy rope perches in longer lengths anymore, I opted to get him a java (?) wood one instead. I also got a second one I thought looked cool and like he'd like to hang out on up in the 'canopy' of his cage;). He's also getting a large foraging nut of some kind (have had that one for a while), Manu block and leather strips to make him a new knot toy (I hate leather but I don't know what else to use he won't immediately chew through instead of untying:(). Anyways, I'm pretty excited and he's going nuts over what he caught a glimpse of. Yay for Mr. Kiwi!!!

Oh and for size reference, the straight perch is a little over 30". Both massive natural branches and hopefully to hard for him to chew out from under himself like he will with manzanita branches.

Lucky Kiwi! That perch is fantastic, I have one kind of like that in Dexter's (YCA) cage and he loves it.

Awesome score there Mr Kiwi. Happy 10th Adoption Day. Double digits. I am sure you will enjoy your gifts. Xx

Just a point taught to me many years ago! When very special days exist within the same month! Always celebrate each separately! After all, they are each very special days and if Adoption Day was in a separate month, it would be celebrated in and of itself.
I know a Christmas day baby and she told me years ago that one quickly finds out who are the cheap friends and who are the real friends.
Congratulations Kiwi! Ten years and going strong, and if memory serves this was also a very special year for Kiwi. Triple celebration if I recall!

Happy 10th adoption day, Kiwi. Your mom hooked you up with some great gifts! Have fun and enjoy the holidays.

Thanks all! I'm going to give the branches a nice vinegar bath soon to sanitize them so they'll be dry and ready to instal in the cage a little later today. I'll post some pics of Kiwi enjoying his new furniture later:D He went ballistic when I brought them in yesterday but I had a long day and was in no way inclined to clean them then dismantle his cage. I'm sure he'll be super happy about the new decor'.

I just noticed that I forgot to wish Kiwi a Very Happy Adoption Day!

Happy adoption day! It's so great to have wide perches, do good for foot health!

Yes! I specifically went for some extra wide ones as Kiwi is now about 20 years old (we were told he was around 10 when we adopted him) and he often chooses to sit on some of his thinner perches on his swing and play tree for hours at a time. While I do believe they should have a range including thin options (trees naturally range from thick to thin branches), I figure some super wide ones in frequently trafficked areas of the cage should offer a better balance since previously his widest ones only went up to about 2-4" diameter (Just measured, the straight one is almost 8.5" around and the other one of similar width in most spots!!! Holy crap!)

Also to note (and embarrass my boy a bit) he has HUGE feet. Seriously they're probably as big as some more petite footed big macs. He's like a neon colored yeti lol. Even his vet has remarked on the size of his feet lol.

Ooooo! Must see d Feet!! Post pic asap!!! All sizes perches good. It's just a trend for many people to not offer the biggie perches, which are needed, especially big/ medium parrots don't often get the larger size option! I have an Amazon size per h for my quakers and I have to say they are the favorite, tho they hang out on the twiggy size one too ;) even the parakeets will choose my giant perches often when out of their cage. So I commend you for getting a super size perch, and hope more people do!

Hubby and I are going Christmas shopping soon, but afterwards the perches should be dry so I'll be sure to get some pics of the feet on his new branches (they always did say big foots lived in the PNW:p).

I'll be watching for those big feet! Wah those hands, stay away from any Sneezy coughing people! Have fun! And don't forget us, I gotta see these feet!!!!!!! @@

The presents are great, and the occasions are great, and the sentiments are great, but ya know the best part? I know you'll agree: a happy bird in a wonderful home. A real holiday AND YEAR 'ROUND treasure. Congratulations.

Yaaa, those Southern Blue Fronted Amazon really push the Big Foot gauge to near max. Our Darby pushed the Big Footness to the max also. Julio is near 40 grams heavier and his feet are not that big.
Well, as they say, Big Feet is the foundation to a Greater Understanding!

You haven't posted pictures of the feet!!!! I wanna see the big feet!

And a very happy AdoptionDay to you Mr Kiwi :D Mommy dearest certainly doesn't scrimp when it comes to her boy :p

It's in the 50's here today and I've been thinking of taking Amy to the local Alpets to see her buddies and pick out a couple gifts for herself and Beebs.

Christmas shopping ran a bit long yesterday (post on that coming soon:D) but I did want to post a couple pics of Kiwi's new branches. Both fit *perfectly* in his cage! The photos also show his new splash-guards I custom made to protect our new laminate flooring from the water demon:rolleyes:

And naturally the first thing he does is immediately begin to chew the perch he stands upon. This is why he's never really been given wood perches before, but this wood does appear to be too hard for him to really chew so hopefully he won't chew it out from under his feet (again).
