Hello I have a few questions this ringneck that I am soon getting this week is two years old is that okay he seems fine no plucked feathers etc. My question is the guy who im getting him from says that when he stands on your arm or finger he wants to get off asap this can be worked right? I have had a love bird and my girlfriend has a hahns macaw. Regardless im also curious about what type of Ringneck this is so I have a picture the guy said when he bought it he believes they said it was a Lacewing? My last question how is size compared to an African Gray Parrot I believe its a congo at my job we have one and he is very wide Im pretty sure ringnecks are longer but how about width and weight?

Okay cool thanks I was just curious because the guy I'm getting him from said he can't get him to stay on his arm hand or shoulder also he gets a bit nippy I can correct this right? Also size comparison to a sun conure? Larger or smaller

I think the ringnecks are a bit bigger or longer than the sun conures, with the proper training and time put into it im sure you can get him to stay on your finger with out any problems. The picture looks like an African Ringneck, because of his beak..

Okay thanks I'm definitely looking to put time into it that's fine with me I know I'll suffer a few bites also I'm buying a big cage the one the guy has is like parakeet size-.- I'm getting a nice size one I work at a pet store :) so a African ringneck? Or a green indian ringneck I'm lost what's the difference also I am truly in a dilemma between the ring neck or a double yellow nape the nape really needs work he's like overweight I can add pictures his beak looks bad feathers also what would you recommend do you need pics of the nape

I dont know about the nape, but with pictures im sure someone here can if I cant. I would go with the ringneck. This is a good site to learn about the ringneck family and psittacula species..

yea that looks like a Green African Ringneck they have darker beaks than the Green Indian Ringnecks who have brighter red beaks, Also its not a lacewing Lacewings are yellow with some orange/purple on the tail. Ringnecks are larger than Sun Conures (I have had both) The Ringnecks are great pets! they can be very vocal and loud but they make such loving pets! Correcting his shyness shouldnt be too hard just let him know you arent going to harm him and be calm whenever you hold him but yes you probably will suffer quite a few bites. I dont know anything about Amazons so I cant help you there sorry!

Yea lol ill deal with the bites i don't really fear a few bites and I know not to pull away and make a big deal out of the bites instead push in towards the bite to show it doesn't affect me correct? Also he is two years old as soon as I get him I'm going to the vet. As far sawing clipping I think I should at first until the shyness is corrected right? Is there a way for him to know only to poop in the cage? Is parrot fruit blend from kaytee mixed with a ultimate parrot seed a good diet of course ill chop up fruits and vegetables also I just don't know how often for the fruit and stuff can you let me know by the way I like this forum some nice people

I dont really push i just ignore the bites until they stop I ahd to tame my Blue Crown Conure. I wing clip at first so they bond to me easier and dont want to get away as much but dont do it yourself first let the vet do it and you watch so later on you can clip the wings yourself. I dont know how to potty train sorry I know some people have successfully done it with their birds though! I use Kaytee Fiesta blend for my non breeding birds it has both pellets and seeds and dried fruit! But I always give fresh fruits and veggies to all my birds as well just never avocado its very toxic. I give fresh fruits and veggies daily at first my birds wouldnt touch them! but they soon got used to them and love them now I mix up which ones I give every day so there is lots of variety! and yea this site is awesome I love it!! :)

Probably also a hen...

Why ignore or push into the bite? Why not try avoiding the bite in the first place? That way, the only bite that isn't rewarded is the one that doesn't occur? Which means trying to avoid situations where the bird will bite, and if the bird appears as if he/she is going to bite, then back away from the bird and try again later. Don't rush the bird.
