Hi Everyone. I've fostered Caiques in the past, but never had had one of our own for the most part. Yesterday we adopted a female BH and a male WB Caique. Both were born in June of last year, but not related. Their personalities are amazing. The female has a splayed leg, but gets around incredibly well. You can find her hanging upside down from the cage top from one toe nail chewing on her toys. They didn't have much when we got them so we outfitted their "way too small" cage as best we could. They do talk to me a little. The female is much more timid and gave warning calls when she saw me coming down the stairs this morning. However she does step up to my hand. The male is fearless and steps up constantly. He bites hard. Doesn't draw blood, but it's something I have to work on with him. The bites are not warning nips or anything like that - he loves to be held, but he actually likes to "chew" on skin. I think he likes the texture.

We got very lucky and found a used 34x24x60 playtop cage on Craigslist last night. The people selling it only live 8 miles from my work so I am picking it up tonight.

We are very excited and happy to have them in our family. I've attached a few pictures of them (and their tiny cage).

Oh aren't they a cute pair. Do you know what you are going to name them? Congrats on your two new babies:)

Congrats! I've always loved hearing about Caiques and their active little personalities! I bet they will be a hoot to watch!

Oh so cute! These guys do so great in pairs and are so much fun to watch play. I would maybe get Onyx another buddy (in her previous home she had one, but it died a few months ago, unfortunately) but I am afraid she would not be as affectionate towards me if I did and also white-bellies go for $1100 around here and black caps for at least $900 if not more. I just don't have that kind of money!! I wouldn't want a baby either though, so you never know. I guess I"ll always be open to adopting a second friendly caique if it will get along with Onyx.

Ugh [what a cage ] They need I big cage to play !!! With the hard nips [ I believe will get better with time] . The first thing I do is when they come out .Is let them play on a stand or bounce with toys on top of their cages. Then they are happier to spend time with me. Once they get that out of their system . :) Love caiques -neat you have both kinds . I 2nd the names ?? :)

Their new cage! :)

I was worried the female might have a tough time getting around the cage so I strategically tried to place some rope perches around the cage. Turns out she is an acrobat. She literally did twisting backward flips from the front of the cage to the side of the cage! I was amazed. The next step is to get some netting to hang from the playtop over the front of the cage so she can climb up to that part of the cage.

As far as names. I still don't have any. Suggestions?

I have no list right now. I can tell you our current birds' names:

Military Macaw - Lady
Female CAG - Luna
Male CAG - Qbert (Qberticus)
Male GW Macaw - Confetti
Female GW Macaw - Jazzy

So we are open to almost any names. I will never hear the end of it if I name him Spock. My wife is a big Trekkie and she loves the Big Bang Theory which focuses on Spock :)

Well arnt you just lucky! I believe you hit the jackpot getting two of these amazing guys my pickles is in a cage the same as there's and he loves it as well! I'd suggest for the splay legged to add platform perches these can be made from 1x6 pine and then fastened to the side and it is great for our disabled birdies to get a rest without working to hard:).. As for the names give them something that represents them and has great character just like them!

Thanks JT. I will give those platforms a try. One of the hanging toys I got them is a coconut cut in half that looks like a canopy. I got it for the same reasons - to give her a rest. They also have a sleep cubby in the back right corner of the cage.

One curious thing about her personality is that she is timid and stays away from me in the mornings, but she is all about being with me at night. She calls to me and steps up to my hand and climbs onto my shoulder.

I'm definitely going to choose one of those pairs of names. I'm thinking Howard (because the male is pretty full of himself) and Bernadette (because the female is still a little shy, but will hopefully become more confident as time goes on).

HA HA :) Thats too funny :)

You have to help me when I get My Male Pink cockatoo in June [for names ]:p

Howard & Bernadette have gotten used to me much quicker than expected. They now call out to me and beg to step up (which I love). Howard is always the first to step up, mainly because he moves faster. Bernadette has the splayed leg so her step up is slightly painful (but completely worth it!) since she clamps on with her beak until she is satisfied she is balanced. They both love to be on my shoulder and will preen each other for the longest time. I included a couple of pics from yesterday.

So cute :) Caiques are great !! Greta was my first bird :)

Howard and Bernadette are adorable. Congrats and thanks for sharing the pics. I know their very active little rascals with lots of energy. If I had their energy levels, I would get one in heartbeat. Kudo's again.
