Adding New Fids at our age?

We (mostly me) are looking into possibly adding another fid (or 3) to our existing family.

We are both 56.

Knowing the life expectancy of large birds, is it fair to add additional feathered friends to our home knowing full well we will probably not out live them? Or, is it selffish to add them to our daily lives knowing that they will have their lives traumatized by the loss of their "loved ones"?

I'm not sure where this will take me, but I am curious what others might have to say on the subject.

Thanks,

Forbey

Forbey those answers apply to you as well, get the birds that make you and your wife happy and then enjoy them. That is all anyone can ask.:)

Better with someone who is financially secure, not moving around, and experienced than some kid who gets one and then loses interest. 56 is not old. Why the heck not. Just try to make arrangements. :)
