hello i have a sweet 11 month (approximately) sun conure and am thinking about getting a pineapple green cheek conure or a red factor conure and wanted to know if would be ok to put them in the same cage? any advice would be greatly appropriated

first of all, you never know if youre sun conure and new conure will get along. and even
if they did when they meet, they could still get aggressive randomly sometimes and end
up hurting each other. seen this happen personally. if you want to get another conure
and have it close to your sun conure, then just put its cage near his. ;)

If you have a relatively quiet Sun Conure, I'm not sure I would want to upset that apple cart by bringing another bird into the fold.

Big difference in size. Might be dangerous to cage them together.

Quite honestly, its not worth the risk. Most likely, at some point, the sun will probably injure a smaller bird like a gcc. Especially once hormones kick in, and your conure becomes territorial.

Besides that, even if you found a gcc that got along with your sun, you'd need to buy a seperate cage both to initially quarantine the new bird, and to gradually and safely introduce them. And even then, there's a very real chance one of them could attack the other at some point, anyways.

If you are considering a second sun conure I don't see a problem at all. I do it all the time without incident. However whenever introducing another bird into the household it's to be done with caution & always have Plan B in place. Second cage as mentioned.

I would probably go with a sun rather than a GCC they are aggressive little buggers when they want to be. I have had a young fledged GC full on attack a 3 month old eclectus chick & yet i can put a sun conure baby in with an eclectus chick without a worry.

I so agree with you Pedor on the GCC. They think they are the boss no matter where they are. I always said they would attack a Hawk if they saw one.

thanks guys for the info, so another sun conure should be ok hmmm. Would that be the same for the Red Factor sun Conure?

Just remember the quarantine and introduction period if you do get a second sun. Don't want the new bird passing anything to your current bird.

I know I'm new here, but... in my experience and knowledge, it is never recommended that you house any bird with another unless they are a bonded breeding pair. You never know what can happen while you're not home, or heck, even while you're there watching. Things can happen in the blink of an eye!

And as has already been touched on, there's the quarantine period and slow introduction. If you want them near each other, place their cages side-by-side, as has already been suggested. But I wouldn't risk putting two non-bonded breeding birds together, even if they're the same species of bird (such as 2 different types of Conures, 2 different types of Cockatoo, while both being a Conure or Too).
