Any other accoustic guitar players on here? I'm trying to learn a couple more songs for Christmas and have a question concerning artificial harmonics............

How nice!
Well... No, BUT... I learned acoustic guitar at one time, then electric, then electric bass, but years ago, and have forgotten EVERYTHING lol!! I was always frustrated because I'd hear a melody or line in my head, but wouldn't know how to apply it to the strings. I played for enough years that you'd think I'd be fairly good at it, but I think figuring music at a high enough level to write and play impromptu is a lot like math and probably uses same part of the brain (not my biggest area of talent lol).

There are some professional (and I'm sure casual) musicians on here who might be able to give you an answer :). Good luck!

I play acoustic and ukulele, but am mostly self taught. I have to admit I have never heard of artificial harmonics  It's also hard to play when there are birds around, always trying to bite the strings

I've been watching youtube videos and a couple of free online instructors who are AMAZING to watch. I'm learning a couple of new songs for Christmas, Joy to the World/Angels We Have Heard On High and O Holy Night. Trying to learn them as a surprise. So far I'm thanking my lucky stars that I started practicing now:D

Are you going to play for family? Friends? It will be a nice surprise! It's only October, you'll be ready ;)

I sure hope so, I'd be playing it for family and maybe some friends. Mostly I just want to surprise my Dad with it. guitar christmas music check out/listen to O Holy Night and Joy to the World/Angels we have heard on high. I'd like to learn some of his others too but that might be biting off more than I can chew:)

That guy is pretty good... I'm sure you'll sound just like it by the end of December:) I'm sure your dad and everyone will enjoy regardless!

Thanks :) He is pretty amazing, I would really like to get these down for Christmas.......

I play occasionally, used to play more when I was younger. But I mostly play and sing pop songs that are just fun. I finger pick and hardly play with harmonics or any "utensils" as I love to call them, LOL (I have a glass slide but never use it; many many picks, rarely use....but I do often use a capo!)

When I was younger I was so into finger picking, and would try to emulate Lindsey Buckingham's picking style (I love his finger picking!) but now that I'm rusty, I will go online looking for easy tablature for just goofing around.

Update? I've been wondering how your guitar playing is coming along... are you ready with those songs to play for your family for Christmas? ONE MORE WEEK!! :D

Going pretty good, I haven't been able to practice as much as I had hoped due to a family member's health but have still learned a couple of Christmas songs. Silent Night, The First Noel, What Child Is This....... I know, NOT the ones I REALLY wanted to learn!:D O Holy Night has some serious fingerstretching going on! I'm still working on them and having great fun though and that's what it's about anyways right? If not this year then I'll get it next year..........:32: I hope!:54:

A few years ago, hubby and I took up guitar as a winter "hobby". I used to play a little when I was 16 (more than 30 years ago)...my mom and dad got me a guitar (which I still have) and lessons for Christmas. Hubby mentioned wanting to try it so we did. Got a couple low end guitars and hit youtube and different internet lessons. I wanted to learn "Silent Night" for my mom for Christmas, and I found a very simple lesson for it, and then made it my own. I played it 3 times and each time was more complex. I wish I had written it down because now I can't remember how I did it. If I find the site I will post it. My dad had passed away that year and to this day I can't think about playing my version of the song without crying...he would have loved it! We haven't got the guitars out for a couple years now but maybe this year we will.

I'm sure no matter what songs you play, everyone will enjoy hearing you at Christmas! :)

I've started practicing "with the family" now, everyone was really impressed! YES! Mission accomplished! Oh, btw.... my brother has a guitar..... but I'm not competitive:32:......MUCH!!:D

So I got the guitars out yesterday evening and ordered new strings. Thanks for the motivation!;)

I found the site I originally learned "Silent Night" (and many other songs) from and I am going to *attempt* to post the videos from youtube here. Here goes...

Hope it worked but if not the site is Justin Guitar | Free Guitar Lessons and the Christmas songs are in the "Even More Songs" section on the left.

Lol, small world! That's where I started out too! He has a bunch of great videos and lessons, haven't found his recent ones to be what I'm looking for as I'm more into fingerstyle but Justin is a great teacher!

It is a small world! I haven't looked at his recent lessons. I haven't played in so long I would have to start over with his old ones anyway..lol:eek: There was a couple others that I really liked but I can't remember them now. There wasn't a lot by the one person but I really like how he taught...I will have to look around and see if I can find him again.

There's another guy (can't remember his name) who had a similar set-up. licknriff.com was his site. The guitar is so much fun to learn! I'm having a ball, mine was my Grandfather's so it's pretty special to me.....

Here's Silent Night, my Dad was really happy with it and recorded it for some friends so I though it'd share it with mine! First video I've ever done so please bear with me!
