Accommodating this amazing Greenwing with blindness on one side

So happy for you and Sebastian!
Happy he has a new home that will provide lots of loving care for him.
He's a beautiful macaw =)
How old is he?

Awww, I'm so glad you found him and had the heart to take the guy on! He sure has a big cage now :D I'm betting he is really enjoying that. Any idea how old he is? One of my moms birds is "special needs" now, he has cataracts in both eyes and suffered a stroke a few years ago that disabled him quite a bit (he's really old though). She has his cage setup so his perches have different textures, based on where he is in the cage. He only has 3 "uncomplicated" perches anymore, so it is easy for him to navigate. The perch that goes between his food dishes is a wood dowel, the one in the middle is a sand perch to give him a sturdy grip when climbing up and down, and the one at the top (where he sleeps) is a rope perch. They go like stairs up his cage, straight across, so it's easy for him to move up and down. He used to have nice, natural manzanita, but all the twists and gaps made it too difficult for him to navigate. I wish I had a picture of Barney's cage, but I think you get an idea. Perhaps since Sebastian can't see well, he would do better with a simple-layout and "touch" guided cage instead. If he could learn to feel a rope perch, and know thats where he sleeps vs. being on a dowel perch and knowing his food/water dishes are there, he might be able to navigate a little better. It might also help to keep toys (especially foraging ones) on the side of the cage that corresponds with his good eye, so he can see them. Macaws are SUPER smart, so I'm sure he could learn quick! Best of luck with him!

Thanks for giving him a great home!

You did ask for suggestions, so here is mine. With clicker training, if he is afraid of the bell, I wouldn't go with a whistle or any other mechanical sound. Why not praise him with your voice and say "good boy" when he touches the target stick?

Keep up the good work!

What a handsome boy! He looks very comfortable with you, the love and trust shows! <3

Sebastian is gorgeous! I am so happy that you have given him a home:) One of my lovebirds only has one eye, and he actually gets around the cage as well as the 2 with him who are normal. I did add an extra feed dish, but other than that, he is doing well.

Greenwings are one of my very favorites... (Obviously!)
