1 BFA- Kiwi. Hatch circa 98', forever home with us Dec. 08'
So, I have linked this article quite a few times now, so I thought I would start a thread about it because there are an awful lot of blue fronts on here and it seems to be a common thing to mention on why the size disparity between individual birds. It's because while they are all blue fronts, they are not all the same subspecies! There are 2 blue subspecies of monsters in the world:green:

Amazona aestiva aestiva- The smaller, and less common blue front subspecies. They have more blue, less yellow and a generally more mellow temperament (yes Percy, I said MELLOW, you be nice to your mommy!)

Amazona aestiva xanthopteryx- The larger subspecies more people think of when they think of a blue front. Much more yellow, much less blue and a feisty temperament (shhhhh....don't tell Kiwi).

(TO BE 100% CLEAR, I DID NOT WRITE THIS ARTICLE, JUST FOUND IT INFORMATIVE AND HAVE DIRECTED SEVERAL PEOPLE TO IT)

I did notice that some look more like Kiwi, and some have blue but very little yellow. What about the "Chaco" Blue Fronted? Is that name indicating the region they're from, or a subspecies? I think I read once about a rarer type or subspecies of BFA with red shoulder caps instead of yellow?

I just read the article from the link you gave :) it was interesting. I used to be on a forum once where Joanie Doss participated.

I think the one with the red shoulder caps are the smaller astevia astevia. Chaco is a region, and there seems to be quite a bit of debate whether or not amazons from that region really do display different characteristics.

Just had to add- while "Chaco" may be debatable as an accurate description for a bird in scientific mumbo jumbo, my boy certainly fancies himself a Chaco.

If I ask him what he would be if mommy wrapped him in a tortilla, he starts leaning forward, excitement in his eyes and then I tell him "you'd be a chaco taco"......... he lets out a big whistle, fluffs and shakes his tail. Well, at least kiwi finds my jokes funny:20:

Well, we all know how zons are, that's why I reminded him to be nice to his mommy (just in case, you know, he had taken over the computer again to make more devious posts luring in more people to want zons):54:
