2 year old greenwing macaw

Breeding pair of rosey bourkes
Breeding pair of cockatiels
You guys need to start a topic about the different abbreviations you have on the forum. I think it would help alot to us newcomers lol

Do you mean "bird talk"...CAG=Congo African Grey, DYH=Double Yellow Head Amazon, B&G= Blue & Gold Macaw, M2=Moluccan Cockatoo, etc,? Or do you mean "computerese"..LMAO, IMO, FYI, etc,? :) You'll get used to it.

I've got computerese down, still working on bird talk, lol. I sometimes think someone is talking about a cockatoo, when they are talking about a conure. Glad most everyone has their parrots listed in their profile so it comes through on the post header :)

For those interested, I earlier posted, actually 3 postings, Parrot Acronyms/Abbreviations: Part 1, Part 2 & Part 3...

I tried to post all as a single post but the file was too big, so you've got 3 to read & copy.....

Oh, and I did get Wenz2712's approval..........finally... :)

I used to join my sister at all our local bird shows (she rented a booth) so I can figure out the ones for the birds that are common pets in our area. All these exotic ones from foreign countries were freaking me out, though. ;)

REALLY enjoying seeing the Australian members posts, I think they have the most wonderful animals of all species there. <3

just a bit of random information; an abbreviation is where you shorten a word, like “Avi” for aviary. an acronym is where you take the first letter of each word, to make an initialism that is pronounceable in one word, like Congo African Grey turns to CAG, but you can pronounce it as "kag". an initialism is where you take the first letters of words that you cannot pronounce as a word, like Green Cheek Conure turns to GCC. therefore, all acronyms are also initialisms, but not all initialisms are acronyms.

there, you're welcome for that useless information ;)

Can i just run all my post though you ? I need a proof reader, LOL.

I know quite a few acronyms, abbreviations,etc.......but most of them are just downright rude, insulting or profane. :54: :52:

I think I'll just keep those to myself. :D

(You know, those voices in my head) :D

Please god no! :D I’ve been sitting on that random knowledge thing for ages, but was never in a situation to use it, I’m just so glad I could finally burden other people with it and now whenever you see an acronym/initialism/abbreviation, you will know why :D

I have 2 close friends working to get a doctorate in literature, and one that works for a publisher... my writing (in emails/texts etc.) to them is scrutinized! it's exhausting :( sometimes i make spelling mistakes just to edge them on :p ... I’m a good friend like that, keeps them on their toes ;)
