A week without interaction.

I'll be leaving for another island this week and I wonder how it will affect an IRN that I am raising. I'll be gone for around a week. He'll be in the same room as my 'tiel and my sister's 'tiel so he won't be completely lonely. My uncle will change his food and water but he won't interact with him.

Will he hold a grudge against me when I come back? I'm worried that he will.

Most birds do get pretty offended the first couple trips you take, but they do get over it if you travel enough and in time, learn that you do eventually come back. Be prepared for your bird to be upset though, you may even have some regression in training and/or get bit. It’s pretty normal, especially the first few times you travel or if you travel very infrequently they may always be upset for a day or 2 afterwards. Being left at home in a familiar environment with someone coming to feed/water the bird is actually best for them too so they are not as stressed. Even better if a bird friend is in the same room. Much less confusing than boarding at a vet or bird store or being left at so,won’t else’s house.

He's five months old and he trusts me a lot. We did have a couple of problems before but now it's fine. He does fetch and that's the only trick he knows.

Ok that’s good. It is not good for him to be ignored for a week and it would be much better if someone can interact with him, even just by handing him treats through the bars. He will probably be quite upset but the damage should be reversible.
