I built this website called Scientifickr.

I built it because I wanted a way to identify animals using pictures. It let's you search Flickr using scientific names and it's all arranged according to the scientific taxonomy. It's also really nice for just looking at gorgeous photos of beautiful animals.

It will take me a while to go through the whole thing because there are a whole lot of animals (34,558 species currently) but I made sure I started with parrots so they should be in good order.

Just a thought, but if you give it a social aspect, you can probably leverage the power of the internet userbase to help identify the bird(s) quickly. sort of the wikipedia model.
