Ok, so here's one for you guys, a new one for me as well.

As of November I'm moving away for a year, going to a place where I can't take blue (my blue fronted Amazon).
I was in my local bird store the other day chatting how I always do regarding birds etc when this subject came up.
I said I was looking for someone to lodge blue for a year and did they know of anyone that might be able to help me. Do you know what his reply was??????

'Have you ever considered RELEASING her????? In my opinion if you release them (the birds) they will usually land in someone's garden who will take them in and give them a better home, more love and attention then you can give'
I was like 'HEY'?? He was like yeah, just release her.

I can tell you I nearly released him.... (If you know what I mean) I made my excuses and left.

Needless to say that I'm still with out anyone that can lodge a rather hostile (not to me) young lady for for a year. I've tried different breeders round here, a parrot trainer both of whose I've not heard back from.

Sooooo if anyone in the East Anglian area of England fancies helping me out please let me know hahaha rent paid 😉

And as of the bird store, well it's my local so I may be ordering online from now on. Won't be going back there any time soon that's for sure!!!!

Oh my. I wouldn't have been as to hold my tongue...

Good luck with your search...

That's a horrifying suggestion, especially coming from bird store staff. I can't blame you for not going back there.

How exciting, are you going away to study for a year? I hope you find a good guardian and situation for your BFA.

Wow, totally unbelievable!! What a horrible suggestion! Geez!

Good luck in finding a sitter. Keep trying and don't give up! ;)

A single adjective cannot do justice to such a pathetically ignorant statement. No, a string of epithets might be best. Worse, how many birds may have been released by owners who have tired of their relatively inexpensive pets after consulting with this dolt?

I might've 'released' a few of his front teeth so it might not be so easy to give out such 'advice' in the future:54:

Just shockingly stupid! I hope you find somewhere safe and caring for her to stay. You don't have any family or friends who would be willing then?

Hmmm makes one think about that particular bird store, and their practices with their birds. Do they just release the birds they can not sell? How irresponsible of him the even suggest such a thing to you. I might even go a step further and approach the store owner or manager and speak to then directly about that particular staff member. We have several wonderful bird stores here, if I ever found out something like this was coming from one of their staff members, I would go elsewhere too.

Allee. I'm going to Australia for a year. Some thing I've always wanted to do but never thought I would. Especially before I brought Blue all those years ago haha.

Socalwendy. It's a family run store, I always used to deal with the 'old man' he never used to say much but if I spoke to him enough and showed understanding he'd usually open up and we'd have a good chat, the guy that suggested this rather stupid idea was his son in-law. They used to have loads of birds back in the day but they only have one now, he is their resident cockatoo. Mainly gone over to mail order for seed, toys and flights etc.

I really hope I can find something for her (Blue) the problem is I need someone that understands and is able to deal with a rather hot headed young lady. She is totally fine with me and we get on like a house on fire, but it's not so for the rest of the family, she attacks my mum and brother/sister. If I left her here or with my aunt (she has a grey) she would never come out and her diet would consist of seed, peas and little more!!!

I need someone special, someone that can work with her and give her what she needs!! It's my only problem that I've got to sort before I go😭😭

Where are you located? And when are you leaving?

I'm in the 'East Anglian' part of the U.K, based in Norfolk. Im flying out on the 14th of November, so time yet but it'll creep up real quick!!! I just want her to be in the best place possible, her her sake more than mine. It going to be hard enough leaving her!!!:green:

I see, I see... I hope you find someone too. I agree you need to plan now, and not wait.
