…. Hi folks, I just got off the phone with Geri.. Al was moved from the hospital to a rehab facility adjoined to the hospital,he was transferred there yesterday evening. They did this because at Al's home, there are stairs to navigate and they want to be certain that he'll be able to climb and not possibly fall.
We all know ( I think) that Geri is handicapped herself, and if something like that should ever happen, she would not be able to help Al up.

Health wise,he is doing pretty good. He is still having bouts with high fever and Geri is kind of P.O. that he left the hospital before it was under control, which is understandable..but most of us know (whoever has ever been in a hospital) that Insurance companies want you out ASAP and the poor girl has been having an on-going battle with them.

She says ( make SURE this doesn't get back to Al!! :p) that he has become a cranky 'ol s.o.b. lol and wants OUT now! Been threatening to sign himself out and being extremely cranky with Geri. For some reason, the rehabs interweb sucks big time and he can't get on line. Of course he misses his little boy tremendously :(. Salty has been doing great with Geri. When she picked up the phone I heard the Saltmiester doing his infectious laugh and singing his opera ditty lol.

She wanted me to thank EVERYONE for our love and support! She received a plant from someone ( Scott..I think?) and said it is beautiful and TYVM!!!

So...all in all..he is improving. Geri doesn't know when he will be allowed home, she says she hopes it soon, cause she and Salty just miss the guy so much...and can't take much more of his crabbiness :52: ;) :D

I'll keep you posted as I get info!

In a way, this is reassuring :) !!!!!!!
Kind of makes me happy in a weird, feisty way lol

:eek: Become? I was on his wrong side, very short time! Having worked in the Bronx and along 287 I understood it isn’t personal! Different world in the south, say the wrong thing and you’re shot!

Thanks for the updates, I’ve been watching for them. Hoping that Al can be cranky in the comfort of his own home soon!

I do hope they (hospital) did not jump the gun, I could tell you horror stories about my sister and the hospital.

And I know from personal experience how unpleasant the hospital and the insurance company can be.

I hope Al is retired or the insurance company will want him to return to work about 2 days after he comes home.

Thanks for the update! I had a dr. tell me once when my husband (who was sick and should’ve been resting) started moving about that it’s a good thing. Dunno but I’ve kept that in mind as a good sign, hope Al gets stronger faster and is released soon!

So glad to hear he's beginning his recorery. Yay!

I always think getting cranky is a good sign. And hopefully the rehab will be a more comfortable environment and they get the fever figured out. Thanks for staying in touch with Geri for us, Jim.

Wes,Al still works, but could retire if he wanted..Geri told me she is going to try and talk him into it. We know Al takes trips to China yearly and Geri thinks now, because of what happened,it would be too much for him. His commute to work is usually a 1.5 hour ride so that makes for a long day. ( my last job was like that,a twelve hour day PLUS at LEAST a 2.5 hour commute round trip ..too much for me!)
She says they let him work from home at times, but still would like him to retire.

Thanks for the update, Jim! Nice to know he is progressing and hopefully headed for home soon! Many rehab centers have the unfortunate reputation of needing familial oversight. It may be difficult, but if Geri can visit daily she'll have a better idea of how he's doing.

A get well plant was sent on behalf of all ParrotForum members!

No doubt Al can't wait to return home to Geri and Salty! That will be an awesome reunion!

Thank you for the update! :)

A stay in hospital is enough to make anyone cranky, and do not forget...this guy has been claimed by an amazon as well as all the humans!
So I am relieved to hear he hasn't bitten anyone (yet). ;)

Go Al go!

Sounds like we have more than Amazons in common.
I have a 75 mile commute one way. Half of it on the legendary 405.

Hope he is able to work it out.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop Jim, I was getting worried about Mr Wrench! I hope to see him posting again real soon! ❤️

good to see he's getting better, even if mildly so. All appropriate appendages are crossed that he's fighting fit soon.

I know how he feels, after 6 hours in hospital the other week I was starting to go a bit crazy, cannot imagine a full week there.

Jim

Sounds like a positive sign he's recovering to me:D One must have at least a little energy to be in a crabby mood;)

I hope he's home with his wife, family and little Salty soon.

Al (IMO), tends to be a doer and when a doer cannot, they get very crabby. Quick recovery wishes and huge Amazon feather hugs.

Thank you for the update, Jim. I hope he will be able to be home with his family really soon.
Also a thank you to Scott for sending the plant from all of us, I know that will cheer him & let him know we are all thinking of him.

Hospital stays can be frustrating as hell. Rehab stays even more so. And I know how frustrating it can be when the insurance company is so intent on pushing the patient out of the hospital and into the rehab. (Went through this with my father and my brother.)

Sending prayers and positive thoughts out to Al, Geri and their family.

My mother recently spent a day or 2 in a rehab center.
My mother is a retired nurse who ran the front and back office at a family practice Dr. After that she worked in quality control practices for different hospitals.
While my mother was studying at the Bryman school my Sister and I helped her study for tests. We learned a lot, anyway.

She said that the rehab center was the worst place she ever had to stay and she checked herself out of the place rather than stay one more minute. If you think hospital food is bad the rehab place was worse. When they bothered to give you food it was cold. The meds they were scheduled to give her would not show up on time.

Lucky for my mother her....significant other is also a former nurse and was able to care for her during her recovery.

I do hope that Al's experience is better that what my mother went through.
