Poor Mr. Newt had a bad day yesterday. I get home from grocery shopping, and my husband tells me "I'm sorry but the newt died". I'm thinking "what, why, how?" and am sad my little buddy died. I ask him if he's sure the newt is dead, and he says, "I checked". So I go over to the tank, and he's on his little rock ledge, eye closed. He looked asleep, but I ASSUMED my husband had checked that he was in fact dead before telling me so. So I go get the little mini tank I use when I clean his cage so we can take him outside and bury him. You aren't suppose to touch them with your bare hands, but I picked him up gently, still very much assuming he was dead.
The second I put him in the mini tank he WOKE UP and boy was he pissed he had been moved! Poor thing had just been taking a nap and here we are planning his "funeral". I guess hubby saw his eyes closed and assumed that was a clear sign he was dead:20: I feel bad for touching the poor guy (our skin oils can harm their skin) and for the rude awakening. Thankfully, he is very much alive and healthy...AND my husband learned the newt goes up on the ledge to rest and be out of the water and should not be assumed 'dead' because he's taking a nap...
