While changing his water, Prince managed to escape his cage. We have almost had him a week and his wings are unclipped. My wife and I are worried about him flying off and we don't know how to get him back in without losing a finger.

Fortunately he knows step up and climbed onto my arm and went back into his cage without a fight. We are so relieved! I did try to move in with my finger to get him to step up but he just kept lowering his head like he wanted me to scratch it.

We are feeling pretty good right now with the fact that he appears to be trusting us already. I did not expect it so soon. We will still be cautious though.

Prince is inquisitive and wants to explore
Until YOU decide where to clip or not clip his wings, make sure all windows and doors are closed whenever his cage door is open.

Many members are going to try persuade you not to clip.....

Keep in mind do what is best and the safest for Prince.

Clipping depends on you, I sorta like my birds to be clipped till they get used to me and after that I decide whether to keep clipping or not. Glad everything turned out ok! Good luck! Hope that helps.

Glad it turned out ok, African grays have a pretty decent sized beak. As antonette said, make sure that all so windows and doors are shut.

Having a fully flighted bird is a lot of work, if you think you need to clip your gray to ahead and do so. But make sure a avian vet shows you how to do so first, or at least watch a lot of videos first.
