A Royal Update

Nigel, as you can see, sits in his regal awesomeness commanding all of us subservient humans. We try to keep him happy!

I'm thankful the signs of his first real molt are on the horizon, a few fuzzies and feathers here and there. He was terribly clipped when I got him (you can even tell in the pic here) but we've worked through it well. Thankfully he did fledge before the clip - keeping my attention on the bright side at least.

The past couple of weeks Nigel's vocabulary has exploded from just whistles to saying his name, whistling the tune of Robin Hood (the cartoon), and attempting to bark like a dog. He has also begun playing more with toys which has been a big leap for him. He rolls around now and plays attack bird. We love him!

I've mentioned this before, but I use Google for animal sounds as a teaching tool for Perjo picking up animal sounds. (instead of trying to imitate them myself resulting in Perjo saying the sound like a human would, like quack for a duck). For EG: Google elephant sound, a panel with an elephant and about 8 other animals will pop up. They are authentic sounds of each animal, and it worked great for Perjo. She mimics a duck perfect. she's starting to attempt to do the sheep sound as well.

I just thought it would be cool if Perjo could actually make the real sounds instead of mimicking the people version of them.

Leak, if he will let you, try joining in in his attack play. Salty let's us roll him around on his back and in general rubbing his head and letting him mouth fingers. He just has to know how hard is too hard in that regard.
Salty seems to really enjoy that kind of play.

Yes! Nigel and Salty must be bothers...We looooove to play that way with him and he enjoys it tremendously. Looks like a little vulture coming after us and then we "wrestle" him with our fingers, careful not to overdo! Then, he gets tired and fluffs up and goes all baby cute.
