Hello this is an Objective statement " Agapornis and Cocketiels Do feed infants at night " This is probably one contributing factor to their faster grown when feb by parrents at first. I tried to explain this once to one of these self proclaimed experts. In stead of giving it any consideration she immediatly began "I've had birds for 30 yrs my husband has had birds 30 yrs and my father in law has had birds for 30 years and they do not freed young at night". I just let her go, afterwards I wish I had said so you havent had birds nearly as long as my wife and I. As cocketiels should have been clasified as cocketoos it is reasonable that all of large group of birds do so as well. This can be proven by simple observation. The hugely dilated crop at evening hearing or watching the infants being fed . Regardless of your subjective opinion no one can prove me wrong That's such a wonderful felling! D.D.

Hello Luna
I remember my father telling me about this back in the mid seventies and I sure that Cockatiel's aren't the only breed of bird that does this. Yeah I, also have had numerous "Explanations" with self proclaimed experts. Like you, these "experts" didn't give any consideration to new ideas, opinions or conceptions and then make the comment "I've owned and bred birds for 20, 25 or 30 years". I think this comment must mean 'I know everything and you know next to nothing'.

What also happens is that these self proclaimed experts get together and circle the wagons so to speak. (In Australia we call this the inner circle) to defended off these new ideas, opinions and/or concepts. This usually involves attempts to dis-credit or ostracise the person who dares to challenged them.

I have put a post to a thread and if there is two or more members of the inner circle on the thread, then the thread just stops, and this has happened to me more than once. But that's doesn't worry me. The following two quotes sum these self proclaimed experts to a T

It is a closed mind which cannot look at a subject from various points of view.”
“Always hear others out and remain open-minded; the day you think you know everything is the day you have the most yet to learn.”

I totally agree with you, simple observation can proven so much. My father was breeding birds before I was born and I grew with birds but I didn't quite have the interest at the time like my father.
