Many of you know that I tragically and unexpectedly lost my beloved Magna DYHA Quincy 2 years ago. He was only 6. :(

I am EXTREMELY fortunate to have found my Sam, who happens to be Quincy's FULL brother (same parents).

Today I compared some head shots of the 2 of them when they are about the same age. Quincy is 7.5 months in these pictures, and Sam will be 6 months in 4 days.

This was my Quincy @ 7.5 months

Here is Sam @ nearly 6 months

Again Quincy

And Sam

They not only look like twins, but their temperament is eerily similar, with the only exception that Sam LOVES to cuddle and be touched all over. :D

I am truly blessed.

Thanks so very much, Tab. :D

You know, I honestly can't believe I got this wrong, but I didn't lose Quincy 2 years ago, but 3 years ago. :( Goes to show you that time flies. I swear, it feels just like yesterday.

But I needn't be sad any more. I've got my Sam - and my God do I love that boy! (No more and no less than Hunter & Niko, of course) :10:

yes time sure does fly by!
and im sure quincy is glad you found sam :)

ohh niko and hunter might get jealous.. they will be singing jiggly puff non stop now ;)

Ya know.... I wasn't going to say anything about that, but just a little while ago, while all my fids were out and about, Hunter started her Jiggly Puff and both Niko AND Sam chimed in. I need a bullet! (not for my fids...)

I don't mind you asking. Even though it's difficult to talk about it. Quincy's liver stopped functioning. I had him necropsied because he died within 2 days of falling ill.

Talking, singing, eating one day - listless the following day. We took him to the vet the same day he was listless.

They drew blood, took cultures, did an x-ray. Enlarged liver! So much so he was retaining 60mg (!!!) of fluid which they aspirated.

They sent me home with a boatload of meds.

He died that same night. In my arms.

I held him, he was SO weak. As I was holding him in my lap, petting him, he slowly lifted his head, tilted it, looked up at me and said "Quincy is a good boy. I love you." And then he closed his eyes - forever. :(

Now I am crying, sorry about that. Quincy was a VERY special friend. I'll never get over losing him.

Anyway, I had him necropsied because it all happened much too fast, with no explanation or reason. All the results showed was complete liver failure. :(

JerseyWendy,

My heart aches for you. Parrots are so amazing. My close friend Anita's CAG died last year--she had a fungal infection. She held her in her arms and her last words were "I love you" too. There is no way to describe the presence these birds have in our lives. My heart broke because one moment Calvin was happily talking and then the vet killed her. Never got to say goodbye. The woman never even apologized. It was like I lost a freaking hermit crab. Sorry about the harsh words but I still haven't gotten over my grief and anger. I ended up writing the vet a letter after 4 weeks of waiting for some display of sympathy.

Thank you very VERY much for your kind words, Martha. You know, I have lost several dogs (old age and cancer), stayed with them during the last final moments. I was fortunate because my vet came to the house when it was necessary. But my dogs were given a relaxer before...you know...

I swear, when Quincy said those words and then "fell asleep", my world stopped. I felt empty, completely and utterly heartbroken, a pain so deep, it's hard to put into words.

I truly feel your pain, Martha, and it's not only unethical but down right WRONG how the vet reacted when HE lost your Calvin because of HIS mistake. Has she gotten back to you after receiving your letter? Has she expressed any remorse by now? People like her (your vet) should not be privaleged (sp??) to treat our beloved birds. Period.
