- 2 umbrella Cockatoos One male named Cooper and female named Baby 1 Little Corella male named Frankie and have 5 Cockatiels three named Male named Pepper, Fiesco for the female and female named Wylie.
I seen this person pretty much make every mistake in the book and she really don't listen and deletes the comments and not just mines, but a few others as well. They made the typical mistake most people do when buying a Baby from a pet-store and done everything wrong and wonder why Onni attacked her? He is in his hormonal stage as well. To make matter worst she using a towel to attempt to correct his behavior? The black eye she has is from the bird, she lucky she did not lose her eye? She not listening and not really taking steps to correcting the behavior hormonal issues. So figure it make a good example of why people sure be careful when considering adopting a Cockatoo and what not to do as this one showed the end results, of what could happen? Watch toward the end of the video when she towels the bird which of course MOST OF US KNOW already is a NO. I almost certain if it wasn't for Onni being well known on Youtube, he would have been another cockatoo that they bought as a baby and then they hit puberty and have hormonal issues and most will just dumped at a rescue, or sanctuary, as I commonly see often, rather then learn and take the time to work out behavior issues and socialize the bird correctly and learn to handle during mating season and how to curb aggressive hormonal behavior.
Here original comment I left on that video, which was deleted and other people left similar comments as well and also was deleted.
That towel is a big NO NO NO. that one way to make him more aggressive. Never towel a bird. When he bite you don't put him back in cage as that his safe spot. What you do is put him on the floor, or a chair and walk away without reacting and don't pay any attention, or react to the screams. When he get quite then go to him and award him with a treat. After a few time he get that biting and screaming not acceptable.
Doing what you did with the towel is going to make him way more aggressive and you will lose his trust. My female U2 baby that what they did as they could not handle her and she was way worst then your Onni to the point she sent last owner to the hospital and then they gave her up. I adopted her and worked out the behavior issues and after a few months she hasn't bit a single person and is fully socialized now. She also free flight trained and goes to even stores with me. Yes Cockatoos out of most birds are the most complex to train, as the have the intelligent of a young kid.
Other comment I wrote, "Yes Noodles did try to address this to her"
They get hormonal and you and you husband have to be careful not to pet him below the head. Under the wings especially is a NO NO as they consider it foreplay and make them even more hormonal. Don't let them have boxes during nesting season and go under dark corners and etc. You also have to learn to handle him while around your husband and socialize him. Yes they are the worst between 4 and 11 years of age. A mated pair of U2's is even more complex.
I am a bird trainer and been deal with large and small birds since a kid. No it not that they chose one person, it that he consider you husband as a mate and that the problem. That why he dive bonding and attack and screaming. I have a mated pair of U2's and don't ever worry about getting attack as they are both well socialize and worked out the behavior issues and socialize them to other people. Even during mating season which is now to march they are manageable and have them out all the time.
Cockatoos actually prefer multiple people, they not like Amazons which tend to prefer one person.
