thanks yall

I really think you need to just go slow and steady. Trust has to be built up and earned, it can't happen overnight. Spend time near her and leave the cage door open. A good way to a parrot's heart is through the stomach, so healthy treats are good.

Considering her age, she's probably had some trauma in her life - like the loss of a happy home. She's probably confused and scared. You wouldn't immediately trust a new caregiver, right? Have patience and give her time to trust you.

BTW - she's a gorgeous little thing. Congraulations and adding her to your family.

Pretty birdie. My bird is cage agressive and will bite me if my hands are inside the cage when she is. I put a perch on the inside of the cage door. She sits on it freq. When I open the cage slowly she is out and I can get her away from the cage without a fuss.

Poor Peanut, so many changes.
Great tips from the above members.
Spend time near, the cage, talking and singing. Let his get used to you and your voice. It takes a while for a bird to gain trust.
Be patient, preserver and you will eventually be rewarded.
Keep us posted.
PS I could use Peanut for my business emblem (dried fruit and nuts) LoL

Two weeks really isn't that long; rehoming is stressful. And if Peanut previously lived in a poor environment, I'm sure she'll need extra time to learn to trust you. On top of all that, I'm learning that this isn't really a good time of the year to be a parrot. Yesterday was the first day in almost a week that my normally cuddly Alcatraz wanted to be held.

Just follow the previous advice - talk to her, play music, give her healthy treats and don't push her. She'll come around eventually.

i can now offically get peanut out of her cage by stepping up. =)

Congrat's, you are doing well.
AD gave a great suggestion, and it has worked.
Anytime you want a bird to come out the cage, or to you, offer a treat.
Might take a few attempts, works most of the time.
