5YO Regurgitation

Hello! My GCC (not sexed, but we think she's F), regurgitated twice: once last night and once this morning. I panicked because she hasn't done this since she was a baby. I did take her to the vet. Normal weight, normal gram stain. Normal behavior. The vet said to take this seriously, that it could be behavioral or medical. She wasn't sure. They did a crop wash, and I won't know until sometime next week if she's sick or not.

She hasn't done it since this morning and seems fine, but I'm still very worried. Both times she did it, it was after I offered her a treat (seeds last night, banana chunk this morning.) Is it possible that it's just behavioral? She's normally bonded with my husband, but he's away on business. We've been around each other a lot. It's just so strange because this is not normal for her; she's never regurgitated for him.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

It's not abnormal for them to regurgitate for you especially since your husband is away on business. A Nanday conure I used to have did the same thing, her person was my best friend but when he's away on business she uses me as I was the next best thing and she regurgitates for me. But the moment he's back, she flies right to him and I was done. But it's a good thing that you took him/her to the vet just in case.

You should consider getting a gram scale--that's usually the best and quickest indication of when something's wrong with a bird. I keep one at all times myself and make sure none of the birds are losing weight :)

As for the regurgitation behavior, the context of the behavior is very important and the mannerism during regurgitation is an important indicator too. Regurgitation is a loving behavior, as MikeyTN said. Vomiting is different. Usually when birds vomit (which is a sign of illness) they'll shake their head violently and spray little droplets around the room.

If your bird is vomiting in its cage, then it's probably vomit and not regurgitation, so keep a lookout!
